I love Kath and Kim. I only saw a few episodes of this show on a British Airways flight in 2003 and I hope and pray that it will come out on DVD or be shown in the New York City area. I think Britcom fans would get a kick out of this show. I know I did. I think the writing and acting both out of this world or just down under. I still think about the show and look for it on the internet. So please public stations, use those dollars to purchase the rights to bring this show to American audiences. I think they will get a kick out of it like I did. I think it's one of the best Australian shows around. The actresses who play Kath and Kim really remind me Absolutely Fabulous with a bit more sense to their rhythm. Kath and Kim are a mother and daughter. The daughter prefers to sleep (not around) and has no motivation while the mother has enough for her and everybody else around the house.

Ah, a very rare creature whose species was thought to have become extinct. Until recently, recorded sightings were sporadic ("Kingswood Country" and "Mother & Son") or downright false ("Hey Dad..!" and "Us and Them"). Then along came Kath & Kim. Mmm. Kath & Kim. This curious creature was discovered a decade ago, and was seen intermittently through the Nineties on "Big Girl's Blouse" and "Something Stupid". Atypically worldly in nature, and very aware of its surroundings, Kath & Kim of the Noughties has adapted well to its suburban sprawl surroundings. The good news is that it has spread to other parts of Australia, and other foreign environments. In all seriousness, Kath & Kim has done for Aussie comedy what pathetic Aussie 'comedy' "Hey Dad..!" failed to ever do: provide heaps and heaps of 'laughta'. Though the premise for Kath & Kim is not exactly groundbreaking, its fly-on-the-wall, hand-held-camera-in-a-real-house (a la reality TV), its jumbled sayings, proverbs and mispronounced and incorrect words (eg, "What does that PACIFICALLY entail?"), and its satirical flavour are all winning ingredients. NOW, A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE BEGINNINGRelieved empty nester 40-something Kath (Turner) is shocked to her very core when her selfish, self-absorbed, immature 20-something daughter Kim (Riley) returns to the nest. Kimmy is equally shocked to discover that her once Care Bear-infested bedroom has been turned into a pump and Pilates room by exercise-mad Kath - and so soon after her marriage to Brett (Rowsthorn). What ensues is a struggle for space, with the latter reclaiming her place in the family home. Kath's equipment ends up in the 'good room' AKA the living room. Long live Kath & Kim......A must-see!
... View MoreTo British eyes, Kath & Kim is unique. It's like a cross between Ab Fab (back when it was funny, before it became self-indulgent) and The Royle Family. Spiky, sharp edged, satirical and screamingly funny, Kath & Kim is completely addictive, I have almost completely worn out my DVDs, and am hopeful that series three will arrive before too long. It will take the UK by storm, just as it has Australia.Running gags, catchphrases (look at moiye!), daft stories, mad costumes and a genuinely high-energy, gag-per-moment atmosphere. Best bits? Kath's hen night. Kath's wedding. Sharon's boyfriend. Kath's poodle. Kel's wedding sausage. The Irish dancing sequence. Brett and his boss ("cardonay!"). The baby shower. Kath and Kim meeting "themselves" while shopping. Sandy Freckle. The 70s and 80s flashbacks in the last episode of series two. In fact, it's all so good, so funny and so surprising, I just can't praise it enough. "I'm not a housewife, I'm a hornbag!".
... View MoreAs an international journilist I am increasingly interested with television shows that represent Australian society. I have always wondered to what extent your typical stereotype, bloke and sheila really exist in our everyday life. Previously i had never come across a show quite like Kath and Kim. And although i am not proud to admit it, it has become evident to me that the Kath and Kim stereotype is a very realistic representation of the majority of Australians! What makes Kath and Kim so funny is in fact the irony in the show. Who can honestly say that they don't know a neigbour, auntie or a friend who don't share some of kath and kim characteristics. The situation they are in is very common for typical aussies, living in the suburbs. How many of us are obsessed about being trim, are in disfunctional relationships are chain smokers. Even the bad fashion sense, cheap slang and horribly unromatic attempts to win our lovers reflect on our unique society and are exclusivley Australian ( even if we don't like to admit it!) Kath and Kim is a reality check for us australians showing us how we really are. It is my impression Kath and Kim best represents the reality of australian life, whether we like it or not.
