I've given the show a 5-star rating because I actually liked the first two seasons. But after that the show went downhill. The plot is illogical, slow and boring. The show should really be called: How to safe Tom Mason's family. The protagonist, Tom Mason, is the most annoying character ever. He's narcissistic, stupid, loud and a hypocrite. He'll gladly throws the hole 2nd Mass under the bus to go save someone in his family (which he has to at least once every season) but when it comes to anyone else's life they're usually "sacrificed for the greater good". A quote from the shows antagonist Pope. The Espheni has wiped out 90% of the Earth's population but they just can't take Tom Mason out, a history professor. It's so irrational. Tom flies to the moon and then magically surives, he wakes up in the ocean (?). This show sucks.

Just finished watching this series. I had watched this series 2 years back till season 3 episode 5, got bored and left it. At that time, episodes were coming one by one, and it was boring. Then, picked it up a few days back and binge watched it till season 5 series finale. I wouldn't say it is a very good TV series. But you can watch it. I had watched and left other TV series like 'V' about alien invasion. I would say it is better than 'V', episode wise, may be not plot wise. This TV series is one ground battle after another, each one with bigger stakes than the previous one. I like a TV series if it presents hard choices to its main character and how they choose among their options. It has a bit of that going for it.Story follows Tom Mason, his family, and 2nd mass (Massachusetts) battalion captain that fight aliens to free their world. If you decide to watch this TV series, you will see the journey of main characters from one place to another, encountering new people, new communities and new goals to achieve every time. However, the cliché remains, our main characters will not be killed. (Spoiler: Start) Even, if they are captured by aliens, or if they bomb the moon, hitching a one way ride, they will get back to their people. (Spoiler: End) But if you binge watch it you may enjoy it. I don't think there are any other good TV series out there about alien invasion. So, I settled for this one.

This is how to not write a screenplay. This series about alien invasion has been developed on paper, I'm sure, by much better writers. They can't be any worse. There is almost nothing here that works. Can't pinpoint just one thing, except that overall it is totally uninspired, and without credibility of plot and motivation. The writer/director team, and everyone who had a voice in this production, insisted on the most contrived outcomes that are so obviously contrived it is impossible not to groan when watching, unless one is hoarse. For example, in one section, the formula Hollywood hero tries to rescue his son from gunmen who are trying to shoot a bunch of kids (don't ask for any motivation here. There is none). He does so by surrendering his weapon to them, knowing they mean to kill him and the others, then tells the others to surrender. Magically, he gets a gun from them, magically someone else ambushes the captors, and magically it works.Don't try this in real life. If you watch this, you will see the worst military strategy imaginable, particularly on the side of the humans. You'll want the aliens to wipe out humanity if you're objective. The hero is a hateful, self righteous moron who relies on luck throughout, and you can't wait for this boring dullard to die off, but he's kept in too long, and makes a few seconds seem like an Eternity.Another problem is the complete self righteousness and divisiveness of the script. The hero, and in fact all the main characters, are impossible to relate to, impossible to empathize with, just impossible to care about. They are written in such a one dimensional way that it alienates all but the most spoiled of upper class elitists, and those sheep who mistakenly think they are allowed among them. The lack of imagination, the lack of strategy, the lack of inspiration, all totally Hollywood hate formula, along with the usual neo-Nazi preaching. The usual killing of as many hot brunettes as possible is included, which keeps the female portion of the audience happy, but depresses the males miserably. There is no saving grace to this pile of garbage. It's simply sour grapes from rich kids, and unfortunately these same idiots are in real positions of power. Which is why the U.S. military and government is always 40 years behind the savvy lower class guy on the street in logic and strategy.Divisive, racist, hate filled, self righteous, uninspired, one dimensional. All of this makes any budget a sick waste. A low budget movie with these factors isn't nearly as bad as something that actually consumes so many resources.

This show was just horrible. Being a Sci-Fi fan, I had to force my way through several episodes hoping it would hook me, but I just could not take it anymore. I do not understand how quality Sci-Fi films like Defiance and Firefly get canceled yet bore-fests such as Falling Skies continue on. The story-line is dull and boring, the characters are cliché and lacking any sort of depth, and there is nothing that really makes one want to watch the next episode other than the hope it might be a little better than the last.Do not waste your time with this, I gave it a 1 star and hope more bad reviews come through so funding can go towards continuing good Sci-Fi over this garbage.
