Falling skies was a great show! I was so upset when I found out it was getting canceled and I had high hopes that another network would pick it up (syfy?) But it's been years now and nothing.

To sum it up:Season 1: very good Season 2: decent Season 3: so-so Season 4: bad, just bad (too much family drama) Season 5: didn't even watch itA show that started really well, but slowly became a soap opera family drama. I can't understand how could the writing become so bad from one season to another. Shame...

This series shares lots of details with the Walking Dead. A strong main character, their family, constantly chancing minor characters that get killed when the episode needs a slight emotional boost and so on.The main character's self righteous attitude started getting to me on the first season and it only got worse later on. The situations this creates are predictable and often left me wondering in what reality they thought the disastrous results from each instance of high horse riding were justified or seen as the right thing to do. There's also just "throw the remote at the TV" level stupid moments, often highlighted with characters saying things like "I will probably regret this" and 5 minutes later it's just that.My pet peeve about the whole thing was the description used to sell this: University professor uses his knowledge of history to survive alien apocalypse. Save some anecdotes here and there, very little of that happens in the series. In all, this series barely goes to category of "okay", but doesn't really bring much new to the "humanity has failed and small pockets of resistance are fighting for survival" genre.

When I first started watching Falling Skies I was extremely sceptical. I found the narrative too predictable and the initial relationship building and character development tedious and superficial. It was something I only watched because it had five seasons and it's available on Netflix. Something you would watch in the background while doing the dishes or ironing laundry. However if you hold out until thew middle of the second season things will get more interesting. I took me weeks to watch the first 1.5 seasons. However after 2.5 I actually got hooked again and went through the remainder (a handful of episodes to go) in a matter of days. In some aspects one could compare it to Stargate, an alien race, technologically superior enslaves and harvests other species including humans by means of an organic adjunct as are the Goa'uld worms. However the scenery is post-apocalyptic. There are even a few scenes involving space ships and space battles. Additionally we are being introduced to other alien species beside the invaders. If you like SciFi and have a Netflix account go for it!
