This isn't a SciFi where you sit and brainlessly watch the shiny lasers. Much like all good serial shows these days, there will be a lot of references to what came before in the series. Remembering names and faces is key to getting the most enjoyment out of it. That being said, I think that might be what brought it down. Linking with the past and continuously adding more but mostly from the past gives the show both dimension and baggage (I honestly had enough of those doppelgangers 2 episodes after their introduction). Eventually, the show seemed a little incestuous the way it was turning in on itself all the time. It also seemed a little egocentric like the whole galaxy revolved around the heroes who could never really be killed. I mean even Game of Thrones killed off Sean Bean's character! The drawing upon itself as its own resource must have made the show inaccessible to the casual watcher. I binge watched this on Netflix. I loved the characters. I will miss not being able to see any more episodes.

....this is something a high school drama class would create. Mind you the female lead is stunningly good looking but aside from that it is awful. The actors found their nitch but f they have any ambition they'd be well advised to 'step up' their game. The most comical is Anthony Lemke...almost see him saying "I eat broken glass for breakfast...yeah man you heard it ...broken glass..." If you like to waste an hour at a time this is even worse than that...as laughable as 'Road House' is that 1989 classic had great lines even allowing for the 'blue' language....this couldn't pull it off even if it had Andrew Dice Clay.Only thing missing is William Shattner as 'Capt. Kirk' popping in as a 'cameo' actor with those classic 'double knits' that awful series pioneered.

Season 1 was brilliant and exciting as we learned new things about each of the characters. Unfortunately they revealed too much too soon and really didn't have anything to go with in subsequent seasons. What was fun about Season 1 was the mystery of what happened to them, who they were, how they ended up on the Raza. Season 2 started out ok but by mid season we lost any real reason to keep interest. Season 3 was really pretty bad. Usually shows are getting better each season. This one slid downhill into just another shoot em up bang bang mid season 2 and never recovered.Season 1 had plenty of action, but the driving force was the mysterious circumstances. IMHO, the writers forgot what was compelling and just blew their advantage by spilling all the beans right out of the gate.

If you love Firefly, you will love this. Although Firefly's characters are more lovable, Dark Matter's characters are more interesting. Dark Matter has better effects, production value and plots but you will grow to love the characters as much as Firefly's characters.I didn't get into this show when it first came out in 2015, because the first episode implied a dour, serious and depressing sci fi show. Thankfully this time around I believed the IMDB ratings and sat through the first few episodes. After establishing the back stories and the world, Dark Matter starts to shine with gripping twists and plots that make you come back for more.Much of the time watching it, I think to myself how thankful there are 3 seasons because the episodes are so great. It's the Firefly we could have had, the Firefly we deserve.
