I absolutely love this show! Great characters, storyline, and theme! Where I am from this show comes on everyday at 5 am, so I record it every morning. Jake Long is humorous while teaching a lesson; and makes you appreciate the family you have and what you are blessed with. I adore Jake's friends Trixie and Spud, and of course Fu dog. His family seems to be the average family who raise their children to be hardworking, honest, and kind. I am excited to what happens during the rest of these episodes. I really hope that Disney will continue to air this TV show since it is among my favorites (including: Danny Phantom, The Wild Thornberrys, Ben 10, and Avatar:The Last Airbender) I recommend this show to any age. I am eighteen and I still enjoy this cartoon!

I just spent the last half an hour reading through the other reviews and I don't know if I want to laugh or cry. There's no way that ADJL is like Harry Potter, Danny Phantom, Fairly OddParents, other then a secret magical world, which has been close to overdone. Also, no way is ADJL anime. Anime is very much a drawing style(and some will say more, such as plot and Japanese origin), either way ADJL is not anime so stop saying it is and if you're looking for something that is like anime, look else where, like Teen Titans and Avatar.ADJL is typical. It's just like all the other Disney shows. An arrogant main character kid who thinks he knows everything and doesn't bother to listen to people who're older than him and continues to make the same mistakes. Best friend sidekicks. Repeative plot with a hint of a twist. And sibling rivalry. Can't they once make a character that has brains and isn't full of himself? Can't they have kids respect their elders? Can't they think of something different with the plot? Can't they have the siblings get along and not hate each other? ADJL is just too generic, because you also have bad guys that get defeated and come back again, and are also complete idiots, that have no background for their hate. C'mon, you'll think that someone who's at least 30 will be able to out-wit a 13 year old.Watching ADJL is like watching nearly anything else on TV these day, same thing over and over again. Nothing special, just new designs characters and one small idea that has been used again and again.

I absolutely hate this show for two reasons Jake and Trixie!!! First of all, I'm a New York City teenager and I hate the way Disney portrays NYC teenagers. I'm 17, and I've seen the show a couple of times with my little brother, and I can't bare to watch it for more than 10 min. The slang that they talk is soooo played out, Jake and Trixie talk like old white men trying to imitate young teenagers, it's obvious the writers of this show did no research on how NYC teenagers act and behave and they based the entire show off of stereotypes. I mean what does Jake call his grandfather, "G-Gramps" or "G-Pops", this show is ridiculous, no one in an NYC high school talks like this! And Trixie, talk about stereotypes! What does she call herself "Mama Trixie"!?! And whats with the phony ghetto accent!?! And all the "ain't nothing but a chicken wang" and all the other stereotypical black girl comments! And of course, what would the show be without the stereotypical blond hair, blue eyed beauty, Rose, Jake's crush? The only realistic character is Spud, I like Spud! But this show is absolutely repulsive! If they wanted to have a black girl on the show, they should of included at least one black writer or someone who's up to date on teenage NYC culture.

I love this show! Disney Channel is all well and good, but it's family shows about a sixteen-year old, terrible animated flicks that I'm embarrassed to watch, and not much else. ADJL rocks! Sure, it's got silly jokes, stereotypes, and too much fake slang, but what show doesn't have at least one of those? I'm just grateful that this show is still there, after the short-lived W.I.T.C.H. that I adored. The plot is about a teenage Asian-American boy in NYC who can turn into a Dragon. He is taught about his powers by wise old grandpa – also a dragon – and Fu-Dog, a 6,000 year-old talking dog who whips up potions and bad puns. Jake battles evil monsters and fights the 'Huntsclan,' a group of secret ninja-type people with cool staffs that spew green energy stuff and hunt magical creatures. The Huntsgirl, the Huntsmaster's assistant, Jake's arch nemesis who wants to slay him and become a full-blown Huntsclan member, is actually Rose, the pretty girl at school who Jake has a crush on. Rose/Huntsgirl has a dragon birthmark/tattoo on her hand whose tail winds around her arm, which I think is really cool. I knew that Rose was the Huntsgirl even before I saw the first episode, as I go to Disney Channel.com and check out the video clips and pictures. How many blonds with blue eyes with similar voices are hanging around? If they weren't the same person, the animators would have given them different hair or something. The fact that Jake didn't realize that is just weird, but it's a TV show. At the end of the first season, Jake and Rose have discovered the other's secret identity, and Rose disappears, much to Jake's sorrow. Second season, which just started, picks up a few months after season 1 ended, and there's new animation. I have mixed feelings about the new animation: change is good, and I like how Jake changes into an Asian dragon instead of a European dragon, like before, but the Oracle twins are now fraternal: Sarah is in a is blond in a pink dress and Carra has black hair and is goth, while before they were both red-heads who looked similar. The huge change, in my book, is the Huntsclan uniforms. Before they were dark-green and black armor things that blended into the shadows, but now they're black and maroon things with a red spider symbol on the masks, which makes them stand out. They look stupid and weird. The staff-weapon things with the green energy stuff are more advanced but not so ancient looking. They're more like tridents with some intricate carvings, not so good. I know, I know, I love the Huntsclan too much, but I'm the kind of person who loves Slytherin. All in all, I love this TV show. Sure it has its faults, but it's as close to perfect as you can get with the idea and Disney. Magic and the real world is a great element, and to have it on Disney is wonderful for a fantasy geek like me. Hey, I play D&D, so ADJL is big. Watch it, and see what you think.
