You cannot watch this series and not fall in love with the cast and even learn to forgive Eddie and Patsy's awful behavior. Why are you still reading this review? Go now! Buy this and enjoy! You're welcome!

Like with 'Little Britain', I am mortified to admit that there was once a time I used to find 'Absolutely Fabulous' hilarious. Now, bear in mind I was at that time an impressionable youngster who was easily amused. Now, as a mature adult, I think back and cannot seem to fathom why I ever found it funny. I mean, what the hell is so funny about a pair of old skanks getting drunk and running around screeching like banshees?Starting life as a sketch from an episode of 'French & Saunders', 'Absolutely Fabulous' ( or 'Ab Fab' as many of its fans seem to refer to it as ) was all about chain smoking, heavy drinking, drug taking, plastic surgery obsessed Edina Monsoon and her equally addled friend Patsy Stone. Edina has two children, the sensible Saffron ( or Saffy as Edina often called her ) and the seldom seen Serge. Also on the scene are Edina's scatty mother, who is often verbally scalded by her manipulative daughter.Jennifer Saunders hams it up so much here that it is toe curlingly cringing to watch. Joanna Lumley, who at that time was my biggest childhood crush, is wasted in the role of Patsy. Julia Sawalha, who replaced Dawn French in the role of Saffy, is boring and unfunny. The show's only real saving grace is June Whitfield as Edina's mum. The gorgeous Helen Lederer, who appeared occasionally as Patsy and Eddy's ditzy friend Catriona, has appeared in far better things than this such as 'Naked Video' and 'Happy Families' ( which also starred Jennifer Saunders and to far better comic effect too in my view ).The show's theme tune is a painful cover of Bob Dylan and Rick Danko's '60's hit 'This Wheel's On Fire'. It has been announced that a movie of 'Ab Fab' is currently in production. Why not just leave it where it is? In fact, why not just leave it full stop.

I fell in love with this show when it was first broadcast on a low key unfashionable late night slot, funny how it soon grabbed the imagination and became one of the BEST sitcoms. There are many reasons it works so well, firstly the writing, Jennifer was totally on the money here, her writing was flawless. The cast members themselves, Saunders, Lumley, Julia, Jane, June, all are just magical. I get the impression that as a cast they bonded and got on very well, I think that makes a huge difference. The guest actors are always well chosen and add something different, how good was Kate O'Mara as Patsy's sister! How many of us would like to know Patsy and Eddy!! In my opinion I think the first three series are the funniest, but the later offerings are brilliant too. I'll say it here, I cannot wait for the film. Britcom brilliance. 10/10

Three points here. One, most of these episodes involve a couple of immature, drunken, drug-crazed women who basically act like rich spoiled children making utter fools of themselves, with lots of time taken up by one of them screaming at her daughter. Two, the British accents are almost impossibly thick, so 90 percent of everything they say is nearly incomprehensible, and there are no subtitles, no subtitles, no subtitles (I repeat this because this database will not allow me, for some stupid reason, to use all caps for emphasis). Three, this database is run by idiots who cannot spell -- I was forced to change the spelling of the word dialog because I originally used the more correct spelling that ends in "ue," which they absolutely refused to allow.
