Can't for the life of me figure out why the language is 90% Indian and then you hear English words in it like 'Thank You' or 'Complicated' or once in a while its a little sentence in English. If you're gonna do it in one language then do it. Does have a kind of cheesy plot. Subtitles would have been great. Just throwing this out there for the Canucks that want to download this and watch because it has a good rating. I guess I need to have 10 lines of text so I'm going to write a lot about nothing in order for this post to post. Giggity giggity goo. Oh I need 2 more lines so please ignore these last 5 lines as I get ready to post this stuff.KB

I saw it with minimal expectations and after I saw the film, I googled it thoroughly to make sure that it was not an "unofficial Hollywood remake". And to my surprise, not only is it an original screenplay, they are making a potential big budget Hollwyood movie on this plot.Madhavan said in his interviews that the film is more in the thriller genre than horror. I would say that it is in the rarely employed "refreshingly original" genre of Bollywood movies. The background score gels with the pacing of the film, the cinematography is just right for the mood and content, it is definitely very well-written and the director has done a good job of not just thrilling or scaring us but adding human dimensions to his characters so that we care about their outcome in the climax. And the ensemble cast - Madhavan does a good job of carrying the film on his shoulders as the main protagonist; Poonam Dhillon is a welcome addition to the group of screen moms; Sachin Khedekar, Murali Sharma and Dhritiman Chaterjee are all effective; the 2 standouts for me were Deepak Dobriyal and Neetu Chandra. If she had a yesteryear superstar for a parent, Neetu Chandra would have had a lot of opportunities to display what I believe is tremendous potential. Deepak Dobriyal is one of the most dedicated, passionate and talented actors out there and he shows it in this film. The direction that Bollywood is headed in gives me reason for optimism that they both will be doing a lot of amazing work in the years to come. So, I hail it as a landmark film and then give it an 8. Why oh why? Well, what's this obsession with stuffing songs when totally unwarranted? Waste of time, effort and money. Take those 15-20 minutes worth of songs out, flesh out some parts of the screenplay better and edit it a little more precisely - you have a landmark film. But nevertheless, an extremely entertaining film.

I never thought I would see a good old horror flick in India which would spook and tickle me. Well 13B does exactly that and much more. With a tongue in cheek concept like the Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" which was based on the isolated nature of the modern society, this is a take on the "soap opera" obsessed Indian diaspora especially the women who practically live in these manipulative stories which last for ages and manage to bitch and gossip about them.In today's world, the major source of relief, information and entertainment is the TV. So much so, that it has moved up from its modest position of being just another 'household appliance' to actually determining the power equation in a family. It is easy to identify the hierarchy in the family depending on who controls the remote control. So what happens when the TV realizes this power and begins to take control? What happens when instead of showing you the facts, the TV, begins to show you what it wants you to see? What happens when Manohar, to his great horror, realizes that this is exactly what is happening with his wonderful family, who has just moved into their sweet new home at 13B.The plot unfolds as the main protagonist (Madhavan) begins to learn the "secrets" of the house and dwells into areas you cannot foresee. It is a breadth of fresh air in Indian Cinema where in general you can preempt whole movie down after one or two scenes. Not this one, you are left completely at the mercy of the makers. The performances in general are efficient and honest making the plot more believable especially by Madhavan. The key to the brilliance of the movie is that the director Vikram Kumar only takes it seriously enough without going overboard. It is intended to be a fun ride for the audience, yet not disconnecting them from the subject and the possibility of the story. It is a tough balance. The movie retains its satirical tone in the first half but then gradually changes colors. There are flaws in the film which prevent it from achieving the supreme quality and scope that the script carries. One, the camera at times is unnecessarily shaky. Most Indian filmmakers have the obsession with the tacky and overly slick camera-work and over emphasis on background score but it really hurts the storytelling, especially in a movie like this where the impact moments get somewhat diluted. Second, the climax could have had a better resolution. It was good, no doubt but the build up was so impressive that anything less than brilliant would fall short. Thirdly, some of the performances were too loud to my liking. All in all, it was sheer pleasure watching a movie like this in India which did not spoon feed the audience, which worked on different levels and which was a rollicking fun ride. I am not surprised at the news that the film will be adapted in Hollywood. It is a universal subject and I am sure it will be executed with greater finesse.

There are a very few thrillers in Bollywood which have a good concept and also manage to utilize it well. 13B is one of them. One of the best Horror films I've seen in a long time in Bollywood, which not only had a good plot but was also very well written. It was something different than the usual Horror movies where there is a good attempt as far as background sound, cinematography & art direction are concerned but unfortunately they don't have a story to support all that. 13B sure is an exception. The acting was all brilliant, very convincing, and didn't have the cheezy touch to it. The story grips you till the end, it keeps getting tense and intriguing. One of the things lacking in the films was it's publicity which was very poor, the promotion song used was the very thing that was keeping me to watch the films, thankfully I got over it.
