This is not really a review but it must be said. I am English and watched the film on a cable channel that showed the film with no commerical breaks stating how the entire affair of the apocalypse was totally fictitious. And I must say that both myself and my innocent family sat through this apparently 'real' news flash and to be put lightly, I (censored)ing (censored) myself! I was 8 years old and it may well have scarred me for life and it left us hugging together infront of our tvscreen of static waiting for the alien meteors to kill us.But it probably doest have the same effect on DVD.

View MoreIn a time when movies and TV films are jam-packed with CGI aliens and robots and such, it was pretty interesting to see a Sci-fi movie where there's no 100% proof that it involves aliens. That being said, this film is terrible.I'll pass up on the time frame believability because they had to fit the movie into a 2 hour slot for TV, and had to jam a lot of storyline into a short amount of time. But there are so many things that would not, or could not, happen. For example, what are the chances that EWN would have a camera crew in Colombo, Sri Lanka to interview Arthur C. Clarke? And why would their science consultant end up being their co-anchor? And why would a high-ranking Pentagon officer decide to take time out from the crisis to make some glib comments on the news? Shouldn't he be doing his job? However, I will say this: great premise (especially since it was a TV movie, the news format was rather effective). It had potential to be a huge hit... but I don't think it was (I just watched this film in my astronomy class).::POSSIBLE SPOILER::In my personal opinion, they should have ended the film with the asteroids raining down on the Earth... injecting the Shakespeare quote at the end seemed... frivolous, and an attempt to be poetic. Sometimes, especially in a movie like this, you want to leave the viewer with a lump in their gut. My personal opinion.Overall, an enjoyable movie. I'd watch it again if it was on TV, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it.
... View MoreI saw this film in 1994 or 1995 on Canal+ and I can still remember that I was really impressed by this film. I almost really believed everything was really happening. My VHS-tape of this movie is broken now, but I would really, really appreciate it if anybody could tell me how I could get another copy. (DVD, VHS or any other format) So... can anybody help me?
... View MoreI had high hopes for this film. The idea of a "War of the Worlds"-style fake news broadcast about an imminent asteroid impact was very intriguing. One of my favorite TV films was 1983's "Special Bulletin", which took a similar approach to the subject of nuclear terrorism.Unfortunately, this movie fails on almost all levels. The actors playing the news reporters come off like, well, actors playing news reporters. The plot points are just plain silly and melodramatic. The conclusion of the film is wretchedly insipid. In effect, the fact that humankind takes perfectly logical steps to protect ourselves from an asteroid causes super-advanced aliens to think we're too warlike for them to let us live. Or something like that. The issue of asteroid impacts is real and serious enough that we don't need television trivializing the subject with ridiculous sci-fi elements.
