Engaging from beginning to end, with great cast and a compelling narrative. It's been sometime since I saw a really good British Indie flick and this was a much welcomed changed from the usual fare.

All in all, a film worth watching. It's well-written and the scenery is stunning. Director Dom Lenoir has a sensitivity for the human struggle so it's fitting that his debut feature film focuses on character relationships, the messiness of being human and crime solving.

I was lucky enough to see Winter Ridge at the Hollywood Florida Film Festival. The cinematography is breathtaking, and the story is original and well-told. I appreciated the very believable depiction of a small-ish sized town in which not everyone knows one another. I very much enjoyed the unique story line of the detective and his wife who was in the hospital, and I was intrigued by the progression of the conversations between the detective and the wife's nurse, which was a really lovely touch that gives one hope for brighter days to come for our protagonist. I am eagerly awaiting the film's availability to the general public, because I want to share it with my parents. I know they will enjoy it as much as I did.

UK based director Dom Lenoir delivers his mainstream feature debut with the atmospheric and tense independent detective thriller "Winter Ridge", starring producer Matt Hookings, as the tormented detective Ryan Barnes, alongside Alan Ford (Snatch, An American Werewolf in London) and Game of Thrones's Hannah Waddingham. It's surprising that this was shot for quite a low-budget for a feature, because "Winter Ridge" feels like a high-end production from beginning to the surprising conclusion, full of beautiful raw landscapes, eerie aerial shots, perfect editing and expertly crafted sequences full of tension (like the carchase!). The story follows a tormented detective in a complex chase after a vicious serial killer which terrorizes a secluded mountain village, while his wife is in a coma. The story has a good pacing and built-up, and you feel the emotional journey of detective Ryan Barnes. Matt Hookings is great in his part as a detective on the edge that is battling his own demons while trying to unravel a mystery, and he keeps his own next to UK acting monuments like Alan Ford and Hannah Waddingham. Especially Waddingham is unforgettable as Joanne Hill. So do yourself a favor and check out this tight indie thriller if you have the chance at a film festival near you!
