Anderson (Jason Biggs) was in love with his former girlfriend and planned an elaborate proposal. He dressed up as Cupid, complete with glittering red briefs, wings, and a nice ring, and met his lady at a local restaurant. Alas, the woman keeled over and died from the excitement, most likely a victim of a bad ticker. Its been a year since and Anderson is still in dire straits. He can't work and he can't talk about anything but the near-fiancé he lost. One day, a close friend takes him to lunch at a diner and makes an impassioned plea for Anderson to get on with his life. Almost before the words are out of the pal's mouth, Anderson turns to the pretty waitress, Katie (Isla Fisher), who he just met, and asks HER to marry him. What a shock when she says yes! You see, she, too, has been under pressure of late. Katie still lives with her parents and she has an orthodontist boyfriend that the older couple adores. Dr. Tooth asked Katie to marry him, also, the night before but, although she likes him, she doesn't love him and doesn't want to be forced into acceptance. So, here is an escape for her as well. Before long, Katie is moving in with Anderson and planning the wedding. But, a wild cast of characters, including Anderson's parents, Katie's jailed biological father, the restaurant owners and various others complicate the intending nuptials. Will the just-introduced couple actually get married? This film tries to be a movie of quirky humor and offbeat situations but doesn't really succeed at making a favorable impression. No, its not the cast, for Fisher and Biggs are engaging performers and the supporting actors are nice, too. In fact, they are the reason to sit through this to the end, for the story itself falls flat on its face. Costumes, settings and camera work are adequate but not great and the direction is all over the place. So, this viewer really can't recommended it with any gusto whatsoever. If you, however, like any of the cast members, watch it and perhaps you will arrive at a different conclusion.
... View MoreRomcoms are a tricky genre because there's always the question of plausibility but at the same time it should be entertaining and genuinely funny. And while "Wedding Daze" (aka Pleasure of Your Company) has its share of flaws, it's definitely a movie that made me laugh and swoon! The screenplay is very careless and tends to manipulate the situation in several instances, there are a lot of scenes that drives a home run. Jason Biggs was hilarious in this one. Isla Fisher was more charming in this movie than the high profile "Confessions of a Shopaholic". The supporting cast especially Jason's mom & dad were a riot. What makes this movie a cut above the rest of the romcoms is the fact that: (1) it doesn't try hard to be "logical" and it didn't stick with any known formula, in fact it threw all the rules out of the window... heck love is best when it's spontaneous and crazy! (2) it doesn't try to be charming. If this was marketed well, this could've been a hit! This is so much more fun than a lot of romcoms that have been coming out lately (ie The Back Up Plan, Leap Year, All About Steve, The Bounty Hunter, etc) 6.5/10
... View MoreAnother movie I saw on a 15 hour flight - only reason to consider was Jason Biggs who was quite funny in American Pie series. The premise (that of a impromptu proposal and acceptance leading to a series of fights resulting in the eventual wedding), though beaten to death can be golden in the hands of a good director. But this movie was a complete disappointment. Where was the story/screenplay? Jason Biggs plays a do-nothing loser (he is playing the same role over and over - Saving Silverman, Loser, Wedding Daze - all variations on a theme). Isla Fisher was nice in 'Confessions of a Shopaholic', and no doubt she looked hot (especially in lingerie) but that was about it. The families are shown as absurdly kooky. His parents are oversexed and her three parents are kooks in their own way - dad a convict-fugitive, step- dad a Jewish bore and mom a emotional shrew. Do not waste your time.
... View MoreShockingly bad movie - daft plot; no development. Made it through 35mins before going to do the dishes (that seemed more enjoyable). Normally enjoy cheesy romantic comedies, but this one lacked romance or comedy- the timing, structured to allow for laughing, just results in long, uncomfortable silences. Has all the jokes from the last 3 American Pie movies but somehow forgets the humor. The penis jokes were funny the first 2 times, but you're out of high school now.... grow up.Not FunnyNot CleverNot worth Downloading via P2P, never mind paying good money for.
