Movie : Vishwaroop (U/A)Rating : 4.5/5Kamal Haasan is an excellent actor, we know that. He's a good writer, we know that too. He's a good director as well, we even know that. And for those who don't know, we recommend watching VISHWAROOP. Once you will watch it, you will not be able to forget it. It's an unforgettable, thrilling and adventurous action film that can't be described easily in words.First things first. VISHWAROOP is not a dubbed film from south. It's a straight Bollywood film. Therefore, original Hindi cinema lovers can definitely watch it without thinking much. It's a story about crime, hatred, and what all leads to a war. Right from the beginning frame, Kamal Haasan wins you over as a writer and a director. His creativity angle in the story makes it at par with world cinema. Since it's an action thriller full of suspense and surprises, it won't be good to disclose anything about the story of the film. It's better to watch it on your own to realize how great this film is. The story and screenplay both are amazing, and you wonder how come an actor can write such an interesting story with an even engaging screenplay. The visual effects are very nice and the camera work is top notch. Especially, the scenes of war and the fight sequences look amazing and you wish to just react in surprise. And yes, the action sequences are excellently choreographed and executed, and they look a treat to watch.Kamal Haasan finally comes with a Hindi film after a long time. He is the soul of the film. The way he acts and reacts, gives the film an extra boost. Pooja Kumar thankfully has an important role unlike all heroines and she plays it well. Same for Andrea Jeremiah, who too has an impressive part and plays it well, till the end. Rahul Bose as the antagonist is menacing in several sequences. The other cast too leaves the desired impact. The music is surprisingly excellent. The background score and all songs deserve a 100% rating. The title track is the best one. And the best part is that the editing is also very good, the songs do appear only when needed. There are several scenes that deserve special mention. Many time freeze sequences are filmed very well, and they add to the curiosity and tension of the scene. Very well played, indeed! On the whole, VISHWAROOP is an unforgettable experience that deserves to be watched and loved by all audiences. It's a kind of film never seen before and it has got all the stuff to entertain and enthrall you. What then? Just go, and watch!
... View MoreI have been a die hard fan of Kamal Haasan all my life, not just for his skills related to cinema, but because of his principles and philosophies related to life as well. Had been waiting for the movie ever since I watched a short teaser clip released by KH during an award ceremony 1-2 years ago. The trailers promised a very racy action thriller against a backdrop related to international terrorism. Yes. Interesting. Did the movie live upto the hype and my expectations? Ah. Pretty much.Writing this detailed review from a neutral POV and not writing this as a fan boy.Cast+Characterisation: The cast has several popular names as well as few new ones. KH needs no introduction. He has mastered every role that he has played so far. He does his job as an actor extraordinarily. Rahul Bose and Jaideep Ahlawat too were very good. Couldn't find any flaws in their acting. The characterization of Rahul is very interesting. I see Pooja as a surprise package. She is new to the industry and wasn't expecting much. However, she has managed to put up a very decent show and KH being the writer has done a great job framing her character. Andrea's role doesn't have much to do in this movie. Maybe she would have an important role in the sequel. All others have done a decent job. However, I feel that the American actors who have played minor roles as FBI officers etc have done a below average job. Overall: 8/10 Story: A very simple story related to terrorism at the global level and yet another movie depicting Newton's third law. The story has a phase which is thought provoking. There are many parts that take the viewers to the unknown side of terrorists' lives. It is evident that KH has done a lot of research before making this movie. 8.5/10Direction: The direction is impeccable. Amazing job done. KH has exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds. The great uses of metaphors and motifs sets him at a level much above today's Indian directors. This man is a genius. A perfect 10/10Screenplay + Narration etc: This is one area where the movie fails at certain instances, especially during the second half. The screenplay and narration gets pretty slow mid way. However, it gets back to a good form towards the end of second half. The climax was not liked by many people. It lacked the masala and action that you generally see in typical Indian movies or any movie for that matter. However, the climax was a very smart one. 7/10Music: The biggest drawback of this movie. Expectations were pretty high given the fact that music has been done by SEL. The background score is very good in the first half hour or so and there is proper use of silence. But, midway first half, there is overuse of silence and the BGM is pretty bad and this continues till the end. Yes, there are certain instances where the BGM is pretty good. But, overall, the music is very very bad. Given the fact that good BGM can complement the screenplay very well, I would say that it is the music which made the narration seem boring at times. 5/10Use of technology + making: Probably the best making that Indian movies have ever seen. The quality of the cinematography etc etc is on par with that of Hollywood movies. VFX is the biggest plus point in this movie after KH. Madhusudanan has done an amazing job. The movie seems very grand on the big screen and it is very evident that KH is one person that India must rely on if it wants to takes it's movies to the next level, especially in terms of making and use of technology. 9.5/10Final rating: 8/10I have watched all movies of KH and especially love the ones that he has directed or written the story for. Even after Vishwaroopam for over a ten times (Yes! I have :) ), I still feel that this is not his best. Virumaandi is much superior to this movie. And, Hey Ram stands out as KH's best work even today and Vishwaroopam fails to replace it.Controversy? I felt sad seeing my idol tell the media reporters that he is ready to leave the country. All the related incidents were completely unfortunate and it is obvious that the protests were driven by political forces. There is nothing against Muslim, rather this man has supported the goodwill of most Muslims in this movie.
... View MoreAlthough technically competent, the movie lacks severely in most other areas, especially the screenplay. The story is highly clichéd and even feels confused at many occasions. This is a Tamil version of mindless action flicks such as Reddy, Bodyguard etc. However, Kamal Hassan's portrayal of a feminine dance teacher is extraordinary and is the only thing worth watching in the film. All the other actors play clichéd characters leaving much to be desired for in both depth of character as well as acting. Rahul Bose fails miserably in playing the role of a terrorist reinforcing the popular belief that he is only good in playing urban English speaking intellectual roles. The high rating in IMDb.com is misleading. But then this movie is perhaps in the same league as Mithun Da's highly rated movie "Gunda" (it had IMDb rating of 10/10 at one point of time!). I would recommend watching this film only for hard core Kamal Hassan fans.
... View MoreMain important thing about this film is it is a huge experiment in the Indian cinema history. This was banned for several days in the tamilnadu as it was said it hurts feelings of particular community. But it was not such. The film emphasis the reality. It has got huge commercial values, high production values and very importantly the whole team effort. Kamal hasan's expressions(in dance), role and his action will make some people feel he is the best actor and of course. quite apt for seeing thrice. i have no words to explain it but i can say it is awesome. shankar-ehsan-loy music is very good and plays a major role.Coming to the story it is the detective who risks his life to enter the lashkar-e-thoiba so that he can find out what they are planning to do. one plan for blasting the whole newyork city makes him feel and so he leaves them and goes to new york city with other name and other profession. the parts includes how he made them trust him so tat they reveal the plans and how he find out the explosive and stop newyork city from blasting.
