This highly redundant sequel involves Taj stuck in that tired old plot where he has to lead some misfits into victory against a superteam of unbeatable snobs. Meanwhile he also falls in love with our main villain's girlfriend. Gee, I wonder how all this will end. Kal Penn tries his best and comes of as pretty sympathetic, but these lines he gets are just, ugh. How many double entendres can you cram into an hour and a half? The first time it's pretty funny, the thirtieth time not so much. The writing just consists of working in the word "hard" with every opportunity that comes along. The most amusing scene comes somewhere in the middle, and that's just because it's ripped of from the first one. Are there really any redeeming qualities to this movie? Well, I'll give it a go. The lead snob lays it on really thick, which makes it somewhat enjoyable when he gets his comeuppance. That's pretty much why I kept watching, to see what would happen to him. Also, Holly Davidson is pretty hot. That's pretty much it. It's not enough to hold together a movie, sadly.

I love Kal Penn especially if he does comedy. This Lampoons isn't as funny as the first Van Wilder but it is a good movie. I like the Van Wilder movies because they have the humor of American Pie without being too gross. Kal Penn is probably one of the most underrated Indian/Hindu actors currently. He is totally a funny guy but can also do drama roles as well like The Namesake. I love the English Bull dog with the enormous balls. There is some cute girls in this as well. The story line of this one is entertaining. I hate the Fox & Hounds Guy who plays Mr. Big Shot. Very predictable plot. I like that this movie has a nice ending. Taj's parent's are hilarious. I love the mother, she's too funny. This film is not a rip roaring comedy or the greatest film ever but it's good for entertainment and worth a watch if you like Kal Penn. Also, if you like this movie Harold and Kumar is even better. I can't wait till the new one comes out!

I don't think anyone will argue that this is the basic formula movie. New guy takes girl away from snotty rich kid. That works okay. In fact, the character of the lead is well done. He is rather likable and believable (for this sort of circus atmosphere), and has the impish likability of Cary Grant mixed with the very caring and concerned character of a James Stewart. The gags are juvenile, but okay. Nothing really bad. Certainly better than most of National Lampoon's bombs. Now the bad news. The idea behind the movie is lame and trite. We have a character who teaches students to throw History books away because they were written long ago. That may work for Science, Math, or certain subjects, but History is something that really becomes bad when rewritten, by definition. We already have people wanting to rewrite History, and in a hundred years, don't be surprised to see History books portray Manson as an idol, Jesus as a guy who had babies with Mary Magdeline, and Moses as a myth. Yes, some people already believe in these crocks because of people who would ban History books. That said, it goes for okay cheap entertainment that when your friends make you sit through it, you won't feel very bad.

I see there are few very bad reviews on this movie. I think most of these reviews have come from British viewers who did not like mockery of themselves. I understand it is hard sometime to see the mockery of yourself, specially if you the one who mocks others. Well this is 21st century and British are no more ruling the world. Face it man.Rise of the Taj is quite a fair reflection of a confident Indian facing the British with confidence and pride. It is also a reflection of the fact that Britain is still divided into two classes the cynical asshole snobs ( who wouldn't mind of conquer the world again) and the liberal class who accepts everyone one in the British Society with open arms. One bad thing I would like to say about this movie is the ending. The characters of Taj's parents were really not required. They were bit pushy with their comic. The ending could have been also a little sensible. All in all it is a good movie and I recommend people from both Britain and India to see the movie. For British viewers I would only like to say please enjoy the pun and don't draw conclusions.
