Neal (Jonny Weston) a moody, mumbling high school student has been away living with Aunt Sarah for two years following the fire incident. He is coming home with his less than understanding father (Peter Holden) to reunite with his younger brother Paulie (Gattlin Griffith) and meet his new step mother Angela (Musetta Vander). As the film progresses we find out more about the fire incident and the thing that lives under the bed.I liked how they did the horror and creep factor in the film. It didn't come at you constantly so you didn't get numb to it. There were a number of things that made me scratch my head.1) Neal was gone for 2 years. Paulie was 3 when he left. He is clearly well older than 5, more like 10 or 11. 2) Angela experiences an early encounter, then acts like nothing happened. 3) Paulie has been sleeping in the same room as this thing for years which seems absurd. 4) Dad forces them to sleep in the haunted room to prove a point.I felt like there were some missing scenes. Makes for a good rental. Watch it for the scare and try not to think too much about the plot.Parental Guide: 4 F-bombs (my count). No sex or nudity.
... View MoreI so badly wanted to like this film, as I thought it would finally convince children there could indeed be a monster under the bed! Unfortunately it was not the case. At first, the film only gives us bits and pieces to chew on, keeping you guessing. Then, all of a sudden, everything happens at once during the film's final moments. The film was not scary at all, and suffers from a lot of plot flaws. Where did the demon come from and why is it haunting the brothers? Why would they still sleep on the bed if the know the monster is indeed under the bed? Why is the demon so utterly passive for the first three quarters of the film? The demon haunted them years ago, as well, and their mother died attempting to save them? What happened to the demon thereafter and why is it back now? How can the father still not believe them? The father is also the most annoying character with the most deja vu attitude and dialogue I've seen. Nope, there are better films out there.
... View MoreThis film was alright truth be told, if you have read other reviews on IMDb then you'll see a lot of criticism towards plot holes, continuity issues and a sometimes jumbled jumping story. Two brothers who are menaced by a monster under the bed during the night and have to endure their constantly angry dad during the day. Unable to prove the monsters existence everyone doubts them as crazies until the two worlds meet. This wasn't a spectacular movie by any accounts but it was okay, you did get a sense of something lurking in the shadows constantly but you also got the feel good 'us VS the world' feel as you follow the two brothers throughout their plight. All the action came in the last half an hour of the film. The monster manages to escape and wreak havoc and boys have fight it. While the acting is a bit wooden at times (not all the time, don't get me wrong) I liked that there was no CGI in this film, just old-school effects and man in monster suit. Give it a go but expect a slow burner which feels creepy at times. It's not 100% original but does offer some nice twists to keep it from being the same old boring 'monster under the bed' story as other titles.
... View More*** Contains spoilers ***The first hour of this film was a reasonable effort, then it just went downhill fast to the end.All through the film we heard from both brother's how the creature didn't do this and didn't do that, and if they slept here or were there they would be safe, then the last 20 mins all that went out the window, the creature went on a rampage.Another thing that I really hate in these kind of movie's is no-where in the story did they tell you or find out what this creature was or why it was there. Then when the creature is finally banished/killed, which was the key scene of the movie the camera panned away, I think they must have run out of budget to show us.This film could have been a classic, if the last 20 mins had been written better. As for the acting, there is a couple of them I will look out for in future films, the young brother Paulie looks like a star of the future.
