The script is new and fresh and I haven't seen any movie alike. Red Stevens (the grandfather) has an amazing idea to change his grandson Jason's personality for good for the exchange of "the ultimate gift". Jason, a rich brat, who never had to work his entire life, follows each and every condition of his grandfather in order to receive the ultimate gift, while unknown to the fact that he is becoming a completely different man in the process. The script is very well written, except when Jason was sent to Ethiopia to help with the library, it seemed unwise and cruel for his grandfather to put Jason in danger among the drug dealers. Drew Fuller portrayed Jason very well, both as a rich brat and as a good-hearted man. Probably the most emotional character (and funny as well) was Emily and she did an amazing job all throughout. This was a fresh, new story with no clichés and a story to remember and be motivated from for years. A must watch!

To begin with, I tell you guys I didn't make it to the end. "The Ultimate Gift" is a movie that shows an arrogant guy doing good actions in order to receive a heiress from his dad (or uncle, I didn't bother). What irritates me the most is the lack of sympathy for any character; whilst main character is a boring playboy, his "masters" are all very confident and look like playing games all the time. More than that, fifteen minutes of movie passed by and simply NOTHING happened till that; there was absolutely nothing entertaining or engaging to let the spectator curious or anything. Sometimes, it feels to be one of those religious movies with moral lessons and stuff; however, until the point I watched, there was no message. Bad and boring movie, in conclusion.

Well, there may be a 1000 reviews on this title about this movie. So, I am gonna stop being a cliché' and tell you what this movie exactly did to me. I write a review very rarely and if there is a review for a movie title with my name, its either one of the best or the worst. In this case its the 1st one.I would describe myself as a normal movie goer wanting to forget my work & home troubles and I definitely do not want to return home confused and sad(thats why I am not a fan of European movies). This movie delivered me exactly what I wanted. Here's what this movie did to me: 1.Pulled me in.2.Kept me guessing.3.Made me laugh.4.Made me sad.5.Showed me where stand my life.6.Calmed me down.7.left me happy. The $30 spent on a BR disc was completely worth it.I would definitely watch this movie many more times. more times.

I really enjoyed this film and while I didn't shed actual tears, there were moments that were extremely heartfelt. It is well worth a viewing, especially for those who enjoy a good tearjerker/drama. I had two problems with the film: The first was that the relationship between the lead character and the little girl's mom was not developed fully. There was no chemistry between them, yet they somehow end up together. There should have been more tension built there, so that you are cheering them on to get together - perhaps they could have only been pretending to like one another for the kids' sake and then they eventually fall in love. But the film doesn't show us how and why and when they fall in love. So that plot-line was very thin. The second issue I had was that the "12 Gifts" were not really clear. At the end with the titles, we are shown what the 12 gifts were (the gift of laughter, the gift of gratitude etc..) but not all of these were gifts that RED could have anticipated, nor that he necessarily even had a hand in creating. To my mind, it should have been crystal clear what the gifts were and how RED was making them happen.Other than that, it was a great Sunday afternoon film!
