Thoroughly sickening, mindless ultra-gore with NO redeeming elements whatsoever.I thought John Wick was about as mindless as film making could get (see my review) but this makes Wick look like an art-house classic.Depraved and reprehensible beyond belief... the makers should be strung-up for all eternity.

I expected gore from a Texas Chainsaw movie, but not this much. The amount of gore, ugly deaths, killing and blood in this movie are over the top. The whole psycho family is scary enough just by looking at their way of acting and living, but Tomy, the killer is the real deal... brace yourselfes for a real horror journey. I must admit the story is cringe enough, but I expected nothing more and nothing less, since that is the not main point of the movie.

This was one of the movies I re-watched during my annual horror-movie watching fest during Halloween.TCM the Beginning has been unfairly criticized and panned from people who say things like "there isn't anything new," or "who cares how Leatherface came to be?" Yet the filmmakers themselves said they made the movie partly in response to reams of mail they received asking about how Pa Hewitt came to be sheriff and how his brother-in-law lost his legs (both answered in this movie). From a writer's point of view, there are nice little subtleties about the script to keep the viewer engaged and caring about the characters. Without giving too much away, the poor good looking young people who get tortured this time are a couple of brothers on their way to re-enlist to return to Vietnam (this movie is set four years before either of the originals) and their pretty girlfriends.Other people get involved but the producers wisely stayed away from some of the silly, crowded-cast shenanigans of either "Next Generation" or TCM2.It does kind of end with a thud, as some people have complained, but part of that is because Sheriff Hewitt and Leatherface have to be around, totally intact, for the story that will come four years later.

Brothers, Dean & Eric decide to take their friends on a road trip before heading to Vietnam. Dean doesn't wanna serve in Vietnam, but he becomes worried about upsetting his brother. The trip goes awry when the gang gets involved in an accident and a crazy sheriff puts them through extreme turmoil. To make matters worse, a brooding killer with a chainsaw is looking to hack up them and their friends. I was gonna explain the part about Leatherface's upbringing (Thomas) , but I figured what I typed out would be enough. After a surprisingly entertaining remake, I was shocked to find out they were going the prequel route. Don't get me wrong, I was interested to learn about the background of Leatherface, but I didn't think it was completely necessary. I didn't think they delved deep enough into Leatherface's childhood. More depth would have been nice. To be honest this movie has a lot in common with the 2003 redo. It's breezy and fun with a lot of explicit violence. Take away the prequel and the brothers storyline and you have a lot of the same elements from the first movie. You can put the prequel label on it all you want, but it felt like deja vu. Gore lovers will find a lot to love about this movie. I'm not gonna spoil the goodies because they are the best part of the movie. Let's just say it gets really messy. The acting is quite competent. I did like how they tried to give some semblance of character development to a couple of the characters. Jordana Brewster's part is eerily similar to Jessica Biel's. To her credit she doesn't play a total damsel in distress. She was a decent scream queen, nothing outstanding. Lee Emery is fantastic as the kooky Sheriff. He did his thing from the remake and I loved every minute of it! Taylor Handley and Matt Bomer are good as the brothers. I like how they had a bit of a story so we had a bit of an emotional attachment to them. Handley was more of a sympathetic character. Despite how much I liked Matt Boomer, I empathized with Handley a bit more. Andrew Brynarski is an imposing Leatherface. He was excellent in the remake and just as good in this one! The ending was certainly surprising! I wouldn't say I fully agreed with it, but I appreciated the risk in doing something different. If you accept the fact that this prequel is basically deja vu you'll more than likely enjoy yourself to some degree. More could have been done with it, but I was fairly entertained. 6.4/10
