I did like this movie... back in 1992, when it was called "Single White Female". As for the blatant rip-off called "The Roommate"... urgh, one word: unoriginal. One more word: boring. Oh, and one more: predictable.When you watch the original "Single White Female", you feel that this is something that could really happen to someone in real life. The original was suspenseful and realistic. When you watch *this* (The Roommate)... well, I'm willing to bet anything that a story like this has never, and would never, happened in real life. It's just not believable. And there's zero suspense.They just took the excellent "Single White Female" (a suspenseful thriller) and made a dumbed-down PG version for kids in their early teens of it. That's all there is to it.If you want to see a real female-stalks-female story, watch "Single White Female". Or even the sequel - "Single White Female 2: The Psycho". If you've seen it/them already, don't bother watching "The Roommate", as it's nothing more than a rip-off of the above two titles, created for retards (or very young kids). If you're not one, you, most certainly, won't be impressed.Oh, and by the way, the acting was atrocious.Whoever produced the script for this movie, should just retire. It was pathetic. Man, it is blatantly obvious that s/he ripped-off "Single White Female", but what kind of idiot can't even *copy* someone else's work properly? They copied the unimportant elements, but left the important ones out. Jeez, what a moron.In the original movie ("Single White Female"), the stalker takes her obsession further by copying the lead's physical appearance, also with an agenda to frame her. But in The Roommate this part is replaced with... Oh, please! A tattoo of someone else's dead sister's name? She was supposed to be a dangerous, cunning, smart sociopath, not a clinically retarded looney.Oh, and I saw someone mention that the only reason to watch this are the "hot" lead actresses. Right. Well, first of all, they aren't actresses. They are pathetic amateurs. And... a butt-chin and a plain Jane? "Hot" indeed! In my humble opinion, this movie was not necessary at all. A waste of time and money.

"The Roommate" is a thriller made for teenagers so it might generate some moderate thrills for its target audience… but only because there's a chance they haven't seen this story done before and done better. I bet you can guess what the entire plot of this wannabe tension generator is based solely on the title. OK? Go! "Our heroine (Minka Kelly) is a young woman attending college, probably for the first time and one day gets a new roomie (Leighton Meester). This young woman is awesome at first, getting her out of jams, standing up for her in times of trouble, etc. Eventually, it becomes obvious that The Roommate is crazy and obsessed with her new best friend. If there's a pet it'll be killed as a warm-up to a human being getting murdered, there's going to be a pseudo lesbian aspect and …" Well let's cut it off there shall we? We don't want to give everything away without actually seeing the movie!I can't believe my rating for this movie is two stars out of five. The thrills are mild, with a story that's stale by now, the scares are non-existent (or non-sensical, as a girl who gets stalked in the communal shower room just goes back to washing her hair after she hears something spooky going on) and the movie doesn't really have any teeth. The very idea that the new roommate would be capable of intimidating everyone she meets and that she has the ability to create so much fear in her peers that they forget all about the option of calling the police or going to a higher authority and asking for help is absolutely ludicrous. While there are a few interesting bits where the setting of a college campus is taken advantage of, it never really tries to be original and that makes it forgettable. While the performances are decent, there are many plot holes and some elements are introduced and dropped very quickly, making them feel more like padding than actual material to flesh out or develop the characters and story. Had the plot been more non-sensical or the rating been more adult (allowing for more hanky-panky and gore) this could have at least been "so bad it's good" but there isn't anything here for you if you're older than 16 and even then you would be better off catching another entry in this genre. In it's defense, I didn't hate the movie or find it offensive, I just thought it was run-of-the-mill bad. (On DVD, October 27, 2012)

The college student Sara Matthews (Minka Kelly) travels from Des Moines, Iowa, to Los Angeles to study fashion design. She befriends Tracy Morgan (Aly Michalka) that invites her to a party, where she meets Stephen (Cam Gigandet) and dates him. When Sara returns to her room, she meets her roommate Rebecca Evans (Leighton Meester) and they become friends. Rebecca is a wealthy teenager that becomes obsessed with Sara and soon Tracy notes that something is wrong with Rebecca. But Rebecca threatens Tracy that moves to another house. Rebecca gets rid of anyone that stays between Sara and her, but when Sara finally observes her behavior, she is also threatened by the schizophrenic roommate. "The Roommate" is an unoriginal thriller of obsession with a storyline that is a rip-off "Single White Female". This teen version has two sexy lead actresses, Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester, and may entertain viewers that are not choosy. My vote is five.Title (Brazil): "Colega de Quarto" ("Roommate")

The only reason why i continued watching was because of minka and leighton, otherwise this movie wouldve been the worst thriller of all time. It was a pretty bad ending, especially for the psycho girl, and she was almost depicted as dangerous just for having a mental disorder lol. Overall, worth watching if you have nothing to do, Minka was hot etc. Although, the shower scene was kinda scary... lol id be shitting myself if someone did it to me, but thats pretty much the only scary scene which is bad since its a thriller . Im giving it a 5 just because of the eye candy,im sure 90% of you would agree. peace, and only watch if you run out of movies to watch and want to kill time.
