A boy. and the gift of his mother. a refuge. and the seeds of the friendship. result - a moving animation. impressive for good animation and for simple story. and for the nice manner to give force, using few inspired details, to a story about a special form of change

... View MoreI honestly don't know why this moved me as much as it id. Maybe because it's a combination of me being an animal lover or maybe it might not have anything to do with it or it's a different reason entirely. This director has the talent of quickly setting up characters and then getting the audience to feel sad. The plot is that a boy is a shut-in that pretty much plays video games all day. His mother buys him a present after doing the usual "It's a lovely day you should spend more time outside" thing and he opens his present to find a puppy but because it has only three legs he doesn't show it attention and the short is spent with the poor animal trying to communicate that yes it can still be the dog he'd want, just with a missing leg. The sheer emotional impact of this short I'll admit is actually really really strong. There is huge talent behind this, to think the only thing this director has done since is be a miscellaneous animator on Zootopia is really surprising. Chances are if he does direct a Disney film I will most definitely see it. On that note the animation is really good, the voice acting seems fine if there's nothing memorable. I'll say if you have the chance, see it.
... View More"The Present" is a 4-minute animated short film and the second work written and directed by German Jacob Frey, who worked on several other projects before and afterward as an animator, for example the Oscar-nominated "Room on the Broom" or "Zootopia". The story in this one here is about a boy who loves playing video games and is not too impressed when his mother gives him a puppy as a present. At least not initially. But cuteness prevails and we find out something about the boy as well that makes us like him a lot more than we do when we see his negative reactions towards the dog at first. Nice animation, cute story here. Nothing too outstanding, but certainly worth a watch for under five minutes. I recommend "The Present".
