I don't understand why this movie has so many negative reviews. Certainly it is not as good as the original which starred the great Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis but it does have it's merits. Steve Martin is in top form, Goldie Hawn has some great lines and is cute as can be. John Cleese? Well he is just hilarious as an extremely rude and arrogant hotel manager who has some, shall we say highly unusual proclivities! It even has a cameo by then New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (as himself) who shows that he does indeed have a sense of humor as he views Martin and Hawn in a "compromising" position at Tavern on the Green in Central Park! There is also a great scene with an encounter group. This group has some sexual "issues" to discuss. Cynthia Nixon is a riot (and very sexy) as an extreme nymphomaniac! I'd jump in with her in a heartbeat (I think I'm the male equivalent of a nympho)!

The out of towners starring Goldie Hawn and Steve Martin is just an alright movie overall. It's not horrible, but it certainly is not what I would call good. As I mentioned before, I'm a Goldie Hawn fan, I loved her in the first wives club, seems like old times, and the sugarland express. That's the main reason I watched this movie, because of Goldie. But to be honest, even good comedic actors like Goldie and Steve cannot save this remake of a 1970s comedy film. The main issue is that the script does not contain enough good quality funny lines and moments. The one main funny moment in the movie was when John Cleese is caught by Goldie Hawn dancing around in heels and women's clothing, and Goldie's reaction is just priceless Lol. And Steve martins reaction and line of dialogue to this has me laughing out loud. But unfortunately that is not the majority of the film, it is the minority. The majority is just not too funny, and many scenes meant to be comical end up falling pretty flat. So overall, yes, I love Goldie Hawn, and Martin is a talented actor, but this movie just is not all that great. 5/10.

but a truly moronic remake of a bright, acerbic, top jack lemmon film that actually had a plot and moved through it; this is steve martin after he stopped being funny anymore, walking through a series of stupid skits- a la wow, wouldn';t it be funny if the car they rent has a gps they can't understand and they drive through a fish market; hello? overall very slow, disjointed, bad one-off skits, and instead of being unlucky and chipping a tooth martin and goldie hawn are incredibly stupid; hard to imagine a bunch of Hollywood cokeheads sitting around thinking the rushes were funny, entertaining even; also missing the good origmal music, the period scenes of nyc that are fun to see decades later; remember snl- and the thing about martin looking funny and making odd expressions was that it was the kicker to really good line; take away that and the frill are stale and fall flat

This movie is truly funny, why does everybody compare the original to the remake? If you want a true comparison the the original was bland, this piece is something else I watched it when it first came out on video and I was with my family and friends , we all laughed and enjoyed it. If you can't see humor in this then you my friend need to lighten up, sure this won't appeal everyone comedy has changed the past decade if a comedy doesn't have any controversial meaning or non stop sex, fart jokes then its not funny but to everyone who can take a joke its a must buy or at least a rental.I recommended this movie to my friends and family and they all enjoyed it, maybe we're from another planet?
