I'm writing this as I watch this film for what could be the hundredth time (or possibly more since I've been told that me and my friend used to ask to watch this every day, after school, when we were really little), and I just have to say that this will always be a favourite film of mine. Always. I think this must be the first film that I ever saw that starred Jim Carrey and since then, I've considered Carrey to be one of my favourite actors of all time (alongside Robin Williams). You can't help but love how wacky, and lovably quirky, he is in this film! I know that should I have kids in the future, I will definitely have to show them this film - who knows, they might even love it as much as I do!It's funny, crazy, hilarious, amazing, enjoyable, and seriously epic to watch! Favourite moments/scenes/quotes (from The Mask):1) His first transformation with the mask. (And when he says "Look ma, I'm roadkill. Ha-ha-HA!" - I would find this so funny when I was little). 2) His singing and dancing scenes (with Cameron Diaz's character, and his rendition of "Cuban Pete" with the police). 3) His scene in the park with Cameron Diaz's character when he says something along the lines of "J'adore, j'adore, shut the window, I don't care!" (I'm not at this scene just yet and can't remember the line exactly as it is, but I always found it hilarious). 4) And the scenes in the casino where he gives a speech for "winning an award", asks "Did you miss me..? I guess not!!", and when he swallows the dynamite and exclaims "That's a spicy meatball!" with an accent. There are numerous moments in The Mask that are noteworthy, alongside the ones I've listed above, and just as funny and great to watch. If you haven't seen this film, I would truly recommend that you watch it as soon as possible. If you love comedy and really want to have a laugh, then this would be a great choice!

Delightful cartoon style comedy where Jim Carrey made your first huge success after a double Ace Ventura,a bit childish but very funny, priceless that scene when the Mask has a revenge against two misleading mechanics.he put the exhaust in right place....Cameron Diaz was hot in great shape had a great debut, the real problem is about the crooks, they could make a better choice...Peter Greene didn't able to the role...the couple of cops are compatible and reasonable funny!!!Resume:First watch: 1996 / How many: 3 / Source: TV-Cable TV-DVD / Rating: 7.5

I know it's meant to be cartoony but I thought it was just stupid and so unfunny. The one star is for Cameron Diaz, who was awesome as usual.

I have a feeling 'The Mask' was based on a comic book, but I haven't read it! Therefore, I can't really say how well it's transferred across to the big screen. Although I can say that it works. Carrey plays a – depressingly average – guy who's too nice for his own good. Everyone takes advantage of him and his life is pretty awful. Naturally, when he finds a mysterious wooden mask that when worn transforms him into a green-faced superhero, he chooses to fight crime, protect the weak and generally stand up for justice. Or rather he kind of considers all those options. He mainly just uses his new powers to get back at all those people who have wronged him and do his best to woo the – then unknown – Cameron Diaz. Yeah, the story is hardly original and, if you've seen any of Marvel's latest offerings, it's pretty much identical to every other superhero film, i.e. man gets superpowers, man fights crime, defeats villain and gets girl. But, don't let any small lack of originality put you off. It's not there to be a great work of art with deep and meaningful prose and character arcs. It's there to entertain, utilizing Carrey's full repartee to the max.I really liked this film, as I think it shows off splendidly the comedic talent of Jim Carrey at his best. This film is the perfect production for him to unleash his unique brand of comedy whether it is over the top, or damped down for a specific scene. Normally, the best films are 'team efforts' when the cast all play their parts. Not here. Here it's just Carrey, Carrey, Carrey. He steals every scene and created a thousand new catch phrases in the process. This film is a lot of fun, and director Chuck Russell does a real nice job of crafting a true to life Tex Avery cartoon that lovers of the older short cartoons will truly enjoy and ever since it was originally released in the cinema again I really loved this film and is a really true tour-de-force comedy classic and shows off the actors at their best. The soundtrack - what can I say! Jazz and swing, and the whole art decor feel of places like the Coco Bongo night club - it's just got a whole 1920's, yet modern, feel to it - it's very aesthetically pleasing. Feast on a comic book creation being transferred onto the big screen in an all time "Carrey classic", this film will definitely bring out your childish side.Overall rating: 9 out of 10.
