I've missed Lizzie McGuire since ABC stopped showing reruns of her Disney Channel series on Saturday morning. Hannah Montana was a nice substitute, considering that with the wig she sort of resembles Lizzie, and the similarities don't end there, now that Hilary Duff is a singer too.Although I didn't graduate from junior high school, in this film Lizzie went through the whole cap-and-gown experience and, as is often the case for her, made it a disaster. Then she and some of her classmates went to Rome with the very demanding woman who would become their high school principal. While standing in line for gelato, Lizzie was seen by popular singer Paolo, as well as numerous fans of his singing partner Isabella. Soon Lizzie was mobbed by Isabella fans who though she was the singer. Lizzie began what would become something between a platonic friendship and a romantic relationship with Paolo, who eventually convinced her to take Isabella's place presenting at an awards show. Paolo claimed Isabella, who had disappeared, lost her voice. But tabloid journalists heard Lizzie talk, meaning Isabella could be sued for breach of contract. Lizzie's best friend Gordo (sadly, Miranda didn't make it to this movie) helped Lizzie in her scheme to deceive the evil principal and see Rome on her own with Paolo. Eventually Lizzie's roommate Kate agreed to help Lizzie, but you know there will be something in it for her.And how can bratty brother Matt annoy his sister from thousands of miles away? He'll find a way. Matt's new best friend can actually talk, and she's a girl named Melina. One complication: Paolo didn't tell Lizzie he also wanted her to perform. It would only involve lip-synching, but still ... can Lizzie pull it off? This is of course a Disney movie, but more importantly it is based on a cutesy Disney Channel series. So don't expect too much, but if you start with these facts, this is really pretty good. There is of course the gorgeous historic architecture of Rome. And some wild adventures including a chase scene. Hilary Duff is always good as Lizzie, with that great smile and perky attitude, with the feeling of being a loser always in the background. She's not quite as talented playing Isabella, but she has some good scenes in that role. I wasn't aware Hilary's sister Haylie did Isabella's singing, but both girls are talented singers, and Hilary is quite good on stage too.I mostly just hear Alex Borstein these days. In this movie, as the closest thing to a Disney villain, she overacts quite well and has the standout performance. But she's not a total monster. Miss Ungermeyer actually has a heart.Terra McLeod has a brief but effective role as a quirky fashion designer who helps make Lizzie look like she should.Adam Lamberg and Jake Thomas are very good in their roles from the show.Yani Gellman does a good job. For the past several weeks I have seen him as a totally different character on "90210", so he does have the capability to convince us he is someone unlike himself. I'm just not sure whether either of those characters is really him, since I've never seen him as himself. The scheming and silliness provide the most entertainment. The clueless hotel clerk is quite funny. Two good songs get played in this movie: "On an Evening in Roma" by Dean Martin as the kids arrive in Rome, and "Funiculi Funicula", as an instrumental. Too bad Martin couldn't have also done "Volare", but that great song was wrecked by sounding like all the other junk that passes for music among this film's intended audience. Too bad young girls can't be taught to appreciate real music rather than just being given more of the same, but at least an effort was made in that area. The background music was nice, however. Now having called the music junk, I will say that it was well done for what it was.Of course this movie is for the whole family. I don't think there was anything offensive here.I had fun.

hey everyone i guess all those who ever thought that this movie was good , i'd like to make a correction. it was interestingly boring. first of all hilary duff is a pathetic actress , i jus think she shud stick to singing. ethan craft is hideously ugly ( like always , nothing new ) and how did kate suddenly become so good to lizzie? gordo was the only adorable character. There are many reasons why this movie was a flop. tell me which school suddenly takes the students to rome? lalaine wasn't present. she's better than hilary duff. the storyline was pathetic. not too many characters and usage of places.they hv spoiled the image of rome by making this movie. please Stan , come up with something new!

Yes, the logo at the beginning fooled me into thinking it's another "Inspector Gadget" flick. Oh, well. What can I say? "THE MESSY LIGUINE MOVIE" is a low-down theatrical version of that wonderful TV show my mom likes so much. In it, the main character graduates middle school (FINALLY!!!!!) and heads off to Rome where sooner or later, everybody thinks she's a pop star!!!!! LOL OMGThere are TONS of flaws here!!!!! I mean, this movie is NOTHING like the show itself; rather, we add TONS of OMGs there, something to P.O. the Bush-supporters (although I do like the President; I'm just joking here), more love, more trouble, etc. SOMETHING I NEVER HAD IN MY TIME!!!!!Also, the whole aviation thing was all wrong here!!!!! Living near one of the biggest airports in the world, if they were flying Lufthansa out of LAX how come the ticketing area wasn't big and green; why were there Air Canada planes at the terminal across from them when there should be American Airlines aircraft (TBIT, south side), and, does Lufthansa REALLY fly to non-German destinations from the United States????? No, they don't!!!!! LOLOkay, I'm giving this a 1/10; too much cussing, too much kissing, no story, and the questionable aviation thingy makes this a BAD flick!!!!! Guess I'll go watch a better theatrical movie based on TV like "THE GONG SHOW MOVIE" or something!!!!! LOLOL1/10 :-(

Hilary Duff has always been one of those celebrities I like in terms of the teen acts out there, given the wholesome factor she has (hope she stays that way). Been a teen myself also, I am always very happy to see such people like her in the Hollywood scene. So it's not surprising I did saw this movie where she is the main character...like duh, Lizzie McGuire. I am aware of the Disney TV series but then I never got the chance to watch before. But still, the movie is enough for me to watch. Definitely very wholesome and one for the family.Lizzie (Hilary Duff) had just graduated from junior high school and she's on her way to Rome for a two-week holiday trip with her classmates. In Rome, she was being mistaken for an Italian pop star Isabella. It was Paolo who explained to Lizzie about what is really going on. It turns out that he and Isabella are a pop duo in the Italian music scene and Lizzie turns out to be almost looking like Isabella. But the problem is, Isabella is not around and a music awards show is coming up and so Lizzie is being roped in to be 'Isabella' for the ceremony.Comical scenes soon ensued and the various sights and sounds of Rome as well. Also at the same time, Lizzie's friend Gordo is trying to express how he really feels for her. When at the airport (where he was ordered to be sent home), he saw the real Isabella. Soon he and the real McCoy hurried to the awards show where Lizzie and Paolo were already there to meet the fans. The fans are actually not aware that Lizzie is not the real Isabella though.Just minutes before the ceremony began, Gordo and the real Isabella appeared. Lizzie was confused for a moment before she knew what to do after Isabella's instructions. Everything about Paolo was revealed there and then before the performance. This is what dreams are make of...for those who dare to dream, believing in yourself is all that matters in the end. I know this movie is not meant for the Oscars, but as this is something for the Hilary fans and those who like some good-old wholesome fun at the movies as well.
