One greatest musical comedy that I'd seen over past 30 years,John Landis didn't expected too much when had received the Dan Aykroyd's screenplay too longer. after cutt off a half to fill up to adjust in a proper format took a time, meanwhile tried get the copyrights of all old blues music with their owners a perfect pack came along with several legends such Ray Charles,Cab Calloway, Aretha Franklyn, James Brown,John Lee Hooker just quote a few, blended with a clever premisse when Jack got a parole to set free from prision, they have to visit the old nun sister Mary who raised them at orphanage and try to get 5.000 thousand dollars to pay back taxes to stay open this house's children, after this point every single scenes are adds up with a black humor and action, plus neo Nazi party,Cops and a angry Country band whose are chased on Chicago's neighborhood, Belushi and Aykroyd as near perfect leading roles scattering some funny jokes they getting the audience...fantastic!!!Resume:First watch: 1984 / How many: 3 / Source: TV-DVD-Blu-ray / Rating: 9

Crazy silly story, but very enjoyable nonetheless. John Belushi and Dan Akroyd wanna bring THE BAND together again to raise money to save an orphanage from closing. Unfortunately this band gets into trouble with the law and what follows is without a doubt the most outrageous police chase. Even if you cant enjoy the very beginning of the movie please do give the last half an hour a try, because it is truly hilarious with the most bizarre and hilarious car chase in the history of american cinema. Filmed back in the days when there were no cgi or computer effects, so all the cars that crash are REAL crashes. I assure you, that truly enhances the fun A LOT!Besides this legendary car chase the music alone makes this movie worth watching: music performances and acting by Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker, James Brown, Arehta Franklin. These are all music legends. Amazing that director John Landis pulled it off to get all those stars into 1 flick like this. There is also a funny appearance at the very end by none other than Steven Spielberg, who never acts in any picture, but did so this time around."The Blues Brothers" gained a cult status decades ago. A cult status doesnt necessarily mean it is a masterpiece, it isnt, but the movie just struck a chord for many weirdos back in the eighties. Music bands have been formed which were inspired by this movie. Special Blues Brothers movie screenings are still regularly being held worldwide, to honor this absurd yet classic music road movie. At those festive blues brothers nights everybody goes wild with booze and drugs. Books have been written about John Landis' cult film. Documentaries have been made to analyse it. It has become bigger than anyone could have imagined back then...But please dont use common sense while watching this absurd music comedy. It does help if you are drunk (or stoned or both), when watching this movie, because it is DELIBERATELY simplistic and silly. Very enjoyable and hilarious nonetheless...

One Rainy Sunday I frequented my local theater (The Midway) of Forest Hills not expecting much. The other movies on the marquis just didn't interest me at all. I took a chance on the Movie the Blues Brothers with little expectations. This Movie stars to original cast members of the popular long running TV show Saturday Night Live shown weekly on the NBC network. A comedy staple for decades but best remembered for two of its most prolific players John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. I went inside expecting bad acting . I got it! I also expected mass destruction i.e; car chase through a shopping mall. I witnessed that! I also saw anomalies of a weird nature, Nazi's going to Wrigley Field and business meetings in a steam room. I observed that! I also viewed Fashion model exemplar "Twiggy' getting ripped off in a rural gas station and Carrie Fisher doing demolition throughout the movie. I also witnessed that! What i didn't expect was an afternoon of classic musical and dancing numbers that would rival any musical that I've seen in the past. Let me set it up for you. Our story begins with Joliet Jake Blues (John Belushi) leaving Prison welcomed by his brother Elwood played by Dan Aykrod. To Jake's horror he sees his brother Elwood picking him up in a Mount Prospect City police car which Elwood claims '"They were practically giving them away at auction." Elwood goes on telling him he traded away the original Blues Mobile, The Cadillac for the police car equipped with a microphone which was the selling point for Elwood. The brothers first stop is the orphanage where they were raised as they meet with the cold abusive Sister Mary Stigmata played to perfection by veteran actor Kathleen Freeman. The Sister has a problem. The bank will foreclose on the orphanage due to back property taxes owed in the amount of $5000. The boys step into action as they sit in on a Gospel sermon at the Triple Rock Church led by the Honorable Reverend Brown. .Yes, James Brown the Godfather of soul. Jake breaks into dance during the service and with stunt double does back flips. Jake has an epiphany. Assembling the Blues Brothers band back together and raise the 5000 to save the orphanage.. As Elwood exclaims "Were on a mission from G-d".. The problem is that the band members are scattered around the city of Chicago. One scene worth watching is when the boys enter an upscale Chicago bistro in their dark filthy suits, stetsons and shades as they are downright rude and offensive to the clientele . Unfortunately the maitre d is Big Al (Alan Rubin) their former lead trumpet player who refuses to return to the band. The boys reek havoc until Al concedes. This movie slowly and effectively transforms into musical numbers. The likes of the legendary Ray Charles as he runs a downtown music store with a keen sense of smell to ward off shoplifters. Performances by Aretha Franklin and Cab Calloway make for top notch entertainment with the city of Chicago as the backdrop in this wild and fast moving comedy/musical. The Boys generally dodge the police authorities, a country band , the American Nazi party (Chicago Branch) led by Laugh-in poet Henry Gibson and a deranged ex-lover of Jake the mystery woman Carrie Fisher. . So order up an Orange Whip plus four whole chickens and plain toast. If you look closely you'll see cameos by Paul Ruebens and Chaka Khan. Steve Lawrence and John Candy round out the ensemble. Sit back and watch the Blues Brothers perform and remember there're are still somethings that make us all the same. You. Me. Them. Everybody!!!
