The Last Unicorn Trailers

From a riddle-speaking butterfly, a unicorn learns that she is supposedly the last of her kind, all the others having been herded away by the Red Bull. The unicorn sets out to discover the truth behind the butterfly's words. She is eventually joined on her quest by Schmendrick, a second-rate magician, and Molly Grue, a now middle-aged woman who dreamed all her life of seeing a unicorn. Their journey leads them far from home, all the way to the castle of King Haggard.

It failed to grab my feelings at too many levels. The only thing I really think was great was the surprisingly beautiful forest landscapes and patchwork montages shown in the beginning of the movie and a couple of the voice actors performances like Christopher Lee and Angela Lansbury. Aside from that it didn't really get to me. The beautiful forest was abandoned pretty quickly and the patchwork did only turn up a few times, so it couldn't save the experience, because the too stilted and awkward character animation and the off-pitch musical numbers sung by the prince and Amalfia/the unicorn really dragged it down. There were some designs like The Red Bull and the unicorn itself which were well done, but the central themes of the movie and the quest the unicorn goes on just isn't consistent in its pacing. It either goes frantically fast or drags itself too slow. I really wanted to like it, but it just didn't have to be so. If you like it it's fine, but that did not do the trick for me.

The Last Unicorn: The Last Unicorn is an animated film adored by many that have an all-star cast and animated by Rankin Bass. It involves a unicorn that when learning she is the last of her kind embarks in a long song-filled journey to find others of her kind all while pursued by the Red Bull (not the sports drink). The Good: The screams of grandma when she pops in the room to see her wards watching the bouncing breasts of a triple-breasted topless harpy (or god help us a well-endowed tree) in this G rated film she picked up for a dollar at Walmart. The Bad: Full disclosure I hated this movie. The animation is sub-par and the songs are insipid. Jeff Bridges and Mia Farrow sing themselves and that seemed to be an error. The story is slow and there are severe tonal shifts throughout. Honestly, it is a hard film to get through. In Conclusion: If you loved this film as a kid more power to you. I certainly have some films I saw at a tender age I doubt would hold up today (I am looking your way, Damnation Alley). Taken as itself away from the veil of nostalgia this is a slow moving film with poor animation, forgettable songs, and half asleep celebrity voice actors.

I haven't read the novel by Peter S. Beagle so this is me reviewing the movie on its own.1. The Artwork is really good in this movie. This looks like the artwork you would see in a children's fantasy book. The unicorn looks beautiful and the red bull looks fearsome. When you can combine pretty and gruesome you have some great talent.2. The songs you're either going to love or hate but personally I enjoyed the songs. They're not Disney good songs but they still are enjoyable. Accept the couple song. I didn't like the male singing voice it sounded really off.3. The characters are okay. I liked the magician and Molly. I thought they were very enjoyable characters. The villain by Christopher Lee is portrayed pretty well. I like how he can't find happiness and his determination to find it was pretty evil. Love it. The unicorn is okay. She has a goal which gives her a reason to begin this movie but her character itself is pretty bland. The prince is pretty boring. Not Sleeping Beauty Prince boring but still not very interesting.4. The romance in this doesn't work. You could have wrote out the romance in this story and it wouldn't have affected anything. The Prince and Amalthea have no chemistry. They hardly talk and one terrible love song later they end up together. Plus how could they be together? She's a unicorn and should have taken that into consideration before dating him.5. This is a little bit of a nitpick but it's worth mentioning that I question this film being PG. If you've seen the movie you would know but some stuff in there like the bit of nudity or the harpy made me question the rating a bit. Plus there is a bit of cursing so if your a parent who worries over stuff like that then this movie might not be for you. So maybe your older kids should watch it.Overall it's not a bad kids movie but it does have some flaws that set it apart from being great. If you're curious enough you should watch it. If you wouldn't care to watch fantasy characters than you should skip it.

The Last Unicorn isn't My Little Pony. It uses a variety of colors beyond pink and light blue. The animation is artful, with some beautiful drawings of nature. Its characters are more complex than the typical cartoon on Saturday morning, and it has a greater sense of adventure and danger. But The Last Unicorn is a kid's film. Adults can tolerate it well enough, but I wouldn't go see this on my own. The plot does make attempts to stray from the norm, but its pretty simple, reliant on magic to cause or solve problems in an instant. I found the characters either too loud, too arrogant, too slapsticky, or too typical. I think they were made more relateable to kids than to reality. It was alright. I wouldn't watch it again, but it gets some bonus points for not condescending to its audience. Its a good film to watch with your kids, around 7 and up. Its important to add some magic to their childhood, and I feel this is a film they will remember for years.
