I am gonna get this out of the way right off. I am a fan of the King of Fighters video game series, and I found out this movie existed around the time the live action Tekken (a better movie and more accurate to the source)which i think was like a year after it's release, and i was excited..... until i seen the cover... a movie based on a video game where the main character is 100% Japanese, where the same main character is played by a white guy who doesn't eve remotely look nor is blood related to anyone Japanese... and then Mai played by Maggie Q.... don't get me wrong i think she is good... but she is also playing a Japanese character and she is flat chested, where as Mai the character is WELL KNOWN for well a bigger chest.. and don't get me started on Chizuru, Terry Bogard, Iori (though he was a little more accurate to the character than the others), and Rugal (I like the actor but his portrayal was a little short :P and too goofy for Rugal)..Anyway complete character misrepresentation complaining aside, this movie is a train wreck from the word go... from Mai's intro, to the almost immediate introduction to the "alternate/virtual world", to the poorly dressed Mr Bigg (he was poorly dressed in the games anyway) the whole thing stinks of bad, then it never gets better, and as much as i wanted to know at first what was up between those two... i just don't care after a while because the guy isn't there long. then eventually they introduce (not)Kyo, and i never would have known if it was if someone didn't say in the movie... seriously the same for most of the other characters too, especially Terry Bogard. a lot more of the plot also isn't explained to well, or not at all, like how the "bluetooth virtual/dimensional manipulabobs" work, or what exactly happened to kyo's father (not even a flashback.. this movie does have its moments, mostly from this movies version of Rugal, who to me is a goof, a stark contrast to the serious, deadlier, and just plain mean (seriously he kept the bodies of the fighters he defeated and killed as trophie), and not to mention taller Rugal Bernstein.the one thing about the story that it gets right is the 3 sacred treasures part, and thats really it.the acting isn't that great, even on the part of the actual good actors in the movie, the "alternate/virtual world" costumes are the "try to hard to be accurate to the games" (like street fighter the movie... but i actually like that movie) type and they come off as stupid. the fight choreography is meh with a few good fight scenes (though not the ones you would want to be good), and special effects, and props that feel completely out of place in king of fighters. I personally feel this movie is destined to bargain bin status, and im being generous with a 2 out of 10, and if you want any sort of king of fighters story outside of the games, look for the manga.

I wasn't expecting much from this movie knowing that video game adaptations usually suck... but I was really surprised.The King Of Fighters strikes the right mix between "realism" (taking fantasy characters and give them a boring normal life) and video game movie adaptation for the fans (and kids).Without spoiling anything, basically in this movie you have two universes (literally): one in which the characters live normal lives with normal clothes and normal laws of physics, and then there's an alternate universe where things look like the video game, with the over the top costumes, fire balls and super jump kick flip lopping whatever! That separation was really smart knowing that the KOF video game had some pretty ridiculous costumes and moves.The story requires a fair doze of disbelieve to be suspended... but it's worth it if only for the fight scenes and ridiculously funny dialogs.Violence is kept in check, so feel free to buy this for your kids (not too young though!).

I'm looking at some of the reviews and it just cracks me up. To those that haven't played the game and followed it's storyline, the movie was just a below average action movie without hardly a unique story. It was simple to tell what was going to happen in the end. The "bad guy" was a terrible actor who made the movie felt like it was an updated version of Power Rangers. The effects were pretty lame as well... I know it was a low budget but most of the action scenes looked fake.The Pros? This movie had a few hot chicks. Maggie Q is hot and there were some turn on scenes. The picture was actually pretty good too and I think most of the money went to that.The Cons? Pretty much the whole movie.. With Maggie Q you could have gotten a little more attention if she did a "dirty scene" There was the other 2 fighter girls which would have probably attracted some attention. The action was below average. The cast was just plain lame. The "bad guy" was just a laugh and the story was just simple with hardly any concept put in it. So 3/10

This is not intended to offend any of the cast, but the director, Gordon ChanNot the least cute and grumpy Mai? Why didn't you pick Leona if you wanted a grumpy, dark and brooding agent?Talkative and charming Iori? No, not at all acceptable! I agree that the red hair was not necessary, but I was really expecting his hair to turn red when he was controlled by Orochi.Half American- half whatever-but-Japanese Kyo? It was the most similar personality (Although he looked like Shingo with short hair)but it lacked swagger.Skinny Rugal! My god!! You could at least have tried to put a wig on Goldberg!Marty McFly Terry. What the hell was up with that jacket? You should have given him the leather jacket he had in KOF 2001. A CIA agent? The LONE WOLF? Ha!Chizuru wasn't that bad, and Mr. Big could have been bald, but he was OK.I LOVED Mature and Vice; excellent, really cute.The movie itself, sucked. Awful screenplay, photography, dialogs and crappy costumes. Corny, slow, boring, what else do you want me to say? Don't watch it: ever.I really can't express my frustration about the 1 1/2 hours of my life I wasted watching it. And Kyo's finishing move! Lame! Why didn't you fuse the sword with his arm and did his Shiki Orochinagi? Using ideas from a story you bought the rights to is not plagiarism! Or the Kusanagi sun mark could have AT LEAST flared up in his forehead! Or his jacket!NEVER EVER; WHATEVER YOU DO;D O N O T W A T C H T H I S M O V I E ! ! !
