Movie Review: "The Hangover Part II" (2011)After the summer smash hit "The Hangover" (2009) about four friends in their early 30s out to enjoy a bachelor party night in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA and losing the groom in the act, gets an even further accelerated sequel, in losing the bride's brother this time, directed by Todd Phillipps, who takes the audience-agreeable cast with Bradley Cooper as the character of Phil, the pushing organizer, getting his longtime school friends Stu and Alan, performed by actors Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, to a trip to Bangkok, Thailand, where they have another night of reckoning, further triggered by the reprising character of Mr. Chow, portrayed by actor/entertainer Ken Joeng, who saves the picture of being half-baked, concluding into an exotic comedy full of perverted action and fast-forward script-doctored story-line translated into a surprisingly twisting editorial executed by Debra Neil-Fisher and Michael L. Sale. Director Todd Phillips keeps all the strings to improve flat-out locations from Part I and lets the image system merge with Bangok's gritty, at times repulsive nature, to confront the audience with a party of a life-time, which shall lead to another marriage of no furthers.© 2017 Felix Alexander Dausend (Cinemajesty Entertainments LLC)

The Hangover, Part 2 (2011): Dir: Todd Phillips / Cast: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Ken Jeong, Paul Giamatti: The first problem with this film is that it does what many sequels do. It repeats the exact same premise yet attempts to disguise it with either a bigger budget or a different location. Here is a sequel to The Hangover, one of the best, funniest and original comedies of the decade and it is followed by a sequel of the same ingredients packaged in Bangkok. With that said, one of the guys is getting married but his fiancé desires the wedding take place in her home in Thailand, but as expected, the guys have that one drink that evaporates their minds and has them awaken in a roach infested hotel in Bangkok. From there it is a series of events to find the bride's missing brother whose severed finger is found. The conclusion is pretty much the same as the first film but without the awe. Todd Phillips will remain a sought after director after the first film became a huge surprise hit in 2009. This time his cast recite the same material that they mastered in Vegas. Bradley Cooper wishes not to travel to Thailand but does on request. Ed Helms plays the dentist getting married and awakens with a tattoo on the side of his face. Zach Galifianakis as Al continues his stunned bewilderment. Ken Jeong returns as criminal Mr. Chow whose high energy forgets that he is a wanted man. Paul Giamatti was comic gold in Private Parts but here as an undercover cop he is as bland as the film. This time he is stuffed into an ice box instead of a car trunk. In the end it can never sober up to the original film's brilliance. Score: 2 / 10

The movie doesn't really have anything new to present. It basically runs on the first movie's story and characters. It just changed the location setting from Las Vegas to Bangkok. It sure is quite nice to have a different location and culture influencing the story. But seriously, the plot is simply the same, right to the very details. The only difference in the plot is that this time it is Stu's wedding instead of Doug's, and this time Doug didn't get into trouble. But having everything work out just as the first movie did is just boring. Fortunately this time the comedies are a bit better. We get to see hilarious craziness in them. The ladyboy, everything with Chow, and of course the monkey, are the things that made the comedies worth laughing at. Particularly the monkey is the funniest of those gimmicks.. The acting overall is just as the same as the first movie, if not lower. Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zhac Galifianakis successfully reprised their respective designated roles.

This movie was still pretty hilarious although it was a completely different story plot with the same scenario from the first one. Bradley Cooper, in my opinion, can turn any movie around just from his acting skills. Galifianakis was his usual hilarious self along with Helms and Jeong. The only disappointment that had came out of the film was pretty much the fact that they had used the same scenario from the first Hangover movie. You would think that the director would like to go with a different type of storyline, but I guess this was the one that he was sticking to. Along with it being the easiest to come up with as well. This movie was more than the average comedy film that you would see, but it's lack of good story structure was an issue.  I'm not going to lie and say that I didn't laugh at this film, because I did, it's just that it could've went in another direction. It's claimed a movie that you either hate or love, but I simply find myself in the middle of not liking it because it really went nowhere, and loving it because it was hilarious. I would tell you to give it a try before continuing to read the rest of the reviewers ratings. Try it for yourself and find out how you like it before determining to stay away from it or not.
