The Gospel is a professionally produced film on an unlikely topic - the modern black church. There is no comedy, or sci-fi, or horror, or vampires, it's a straight look into the machinations of the modern black church, and some of its most interesting moments are exposing the politics of what goes on behind the performances and production. On that level, to an outsider like myself, it's a fascinating look. The film includes Idris Elba as a major character, as well as a group of other excellent black actors. The film follows emotional trajectories that are somewhat predictable, and many are also left fairly unresolved, although the egos of the main male characters are resolved towards the end in a way that affirms a message of unity above all. It is an uplifting film, if a bit facile. To truly enjoy the film, you have to believe religion and a Christian GOD is the answer, since any aspects of life that don't jibe with the view are pretty much ignored in the script, but it is a strong parable on community and no man being an island, so it carries a lot of credibility on that level.

A story of redemption, pride, jealousy, and reconciliation.Fine cast with a stirring gospel soundtrack.Although others have criticized the camera work and editing, those aspects of the movie neither bothered me nor detracted from my enjoyment of this uplifting film. I found that the acting, music, and story were engaging and enjoyable. The singing performances of the choral groups and such gospel stars as Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammonds, Mom Winans, and Martha Munizzi combined nicely with, and elegantly complemented, the dramatic work of Idris Elba, Omar Gooding, Nona Gaye, and Clifton Powell.American IDOL finalist Tamyra Gray shined in her acting and singing roles and showed that she has a bright future. Not an award winning film, but quite entertaining.

Hey i think "The Gospel" movie was awesome because i learned a lot from it you know I'm a Christian girl and I was so touched by this movie because i know that sometimes as a Christian you just want to do things your own way but we realism that we can't do anything without Jesus, without accepting Jesus in our lives so i was really touched by this movie and hopefully there will be another one coming out soon. This movie was like the movie "Fighting Temptation" but this movie had a lot of awesome songs man the way the actors were singing it was awesome. I thank you all for making this movie because it shows in the end that life without Jesus is no life at all. So yeah thanks for making this movie it was a real inspiration to me. I encourage people to buy this movie its awesome!

The Gospel was a good movie that deserves more credit than it received. When the Gospel first hit movie theaters I didn't think of it as a movie worth going to see, and I just recently saw it and it was actually really enjoying. What I loved most about The Gospel was the music because I am a fan of gospel music and I love most of the artists that performed. The only bad point was the voice that was chosen for Boris Kodjoe's character, which did not fit his persona. Nona Gaye did a bang up job in the movie, as well as Tamyra Gray, and Idris Alba. Although, I did not like the character that was chosen for Donny McClurkin, because to me Donny McClurkin's real life personality did not collide with the character he portrayed. Now please don't be mistaken, I understand that when you are portraying someone else that is exactly what you are doing, but usually actors merge their own character with the person they're portraying. So if you haven't seen The Gospel see it, you can even watch it with your family.
