I seen this movie when it was released and thought it had a great scheme to the plot. I searched for and began to watch this movie again. The plot itself is interesting in that i cannot think of one that resembles its ideas and extent. The movie was enjoyable for me, i liked the idea and the arousal of a young group of psychotic individuals getting even, plotting out their dark twisted fantasy.Although the movie was fun, i think it could have been scripted better. I say this as some of the lines in the movie seemed too expected, too inevitable, "ah yes, i knew he was going to say that or something like it". There isn't very much shock factor from this movie. With a bigger budget and some more emotional disturbed components to the acting, this movie could have been great. Although it isn't an edgy movie that will keep you hiding under your bed sheets, the movie didn't need it. Nonetheless a movie i would enjoy to see again.

The opening is in black and white, and is nicely done. It seems to set up a revenge motive. The shift to now and full color was a big one.In a history class, the teacher quotes 'There was a price to pay for your actions,' from the past in China. The setup is pretty clear. The cool boys are big, heavy, strong, violent; they are entitled bullies and thieves to the core. The uncool boys are smaller, perhaps decent at some time in their lives, and vulnerable to the cool boys. The cool girls have ample bosoms, expensive clothes, no shame, and plenty of contempt for girls they think of as uncool. The uncool boys and girls plot revenge based in the present, and the viewer is expected to enjoy it based on the imbalances exposed in the narrative. Filmed in Dallas? Not a surprise there. It is odd that Texas accents are largely absent. There's a party where the uncool kids spiked the drinks. They chain up all the cool kids."The good news is, we don't plan to kill you. The bad news is, you will wish that we had." Unfortunately, the uncool kids talk too much. The rest of the film is about torture and death, plus a little hunting humans at night in the woods. The plot is pretty thin, in other words. The middle part is overly long and slow. Get on with it.-------Scores--------Cinematography: 10/10 Absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, degenerate teens are on screen almost all the time. Still, the visuals are extra fine in HD streamed from Netflix. The film looked mediocre at best on standard definition when I saw it the first time on satellite TV.Sound: 10/10 Fine. There is music, but it is not leveled up 20db, which is all too common.Acting: 6/10 OK given the screenplay.Screenplay: 4/10 The adults are largely absent or impotent or complicit or corrupt. The teens are shallow and entitled and violent. Got it. There's about 15 minutes of plot spread over 92 minutes. An uncool adult (Vietnam hero screwed over by American society) does show a minor counter-current of integrity toward the end.

Surprisingly, when I heard torture, disfigurement, I thought "Gee, Hostel, teenager style!!". However, the movie turns out to be a much milder version of Hostel, which is probably why I didn't find it in the least horrific. I was actually cheering for our antagonists (hmm... is that the right usage here...) and disappointed that they didn't get to them all. Yes, it sounds very harsh, but bullies gotta know that if you push someone too far, it just might come back and bite you in the ass.So, that being said, I liked it. The young actors played their roles well. I especially liked Emily, played by Lindsay Seidel. Cool and calm (well except during the mishap with Ravi) she played up her torture scenes well. And of course there was the banjo.Cheers

OK, some of you will be offended by my thoughts about this film, and frankly I couldn't care less. Lets get that straight. I was bullied relentlessly as a kid all the way through my high school years for everything from my race, religion the way I spoke the fact that I was a kind of sort of nerd/jock, everything. This movie speaks to a part of me that was born out of that turmoil, a sick, twisted, sadistic side that only my former bullies have seen. Granted I never took it to the extent that the film shows, but I have broken my fair share of bones to drive home the point, that I wanted to be left alone. But I would be lying through my teeth if I said I hadn't dreamed of taking it further, and most of you would be too. The down trodden will always dream of rising to give the wicked their just due.As a theater geek, and aspiring actor, writer, and all around movie connoisseur I was very impressed with the story they were able to tell on a shoestring budget. The lack of flashy special effects creates an aura of realism. As well as leaving the more disturbing bits for your own imagination to run wild. And yes the script could have used some reworking and some of the actors are robotic. Dean could have been much better portrayed but Emily was without a doubt the best performer of the "freaks". The redhead "hot chick" was the best of the victims, she was excellent. The "jock" was the worst, very one dimensional. And more could have been done with the class clown character, the one that got the cattle gun to the face. Really would've liked to see more character development with the "freaks" because this is the type of movie where you almost find yourself rooting for them. A not so stereotypical portrayal of the popular kids would've also been appreciated, but I understand that they had to go with archetypes of these characters. I'd love to see a remake with a larger budget and better actors. The main reason why I loved this movie is because it's a horror movie that can actually happen. Strange creatures and monsters don't scare us any more because we know them not to be real. The truth is now being revealed in this day and age, the only real monsters are monsters of our own creation. For the most part, monsters who bring guns to school to kill their classmates, are created by the bullies who torment them day in and day out. And the school administrators who do nothing to stop the abuse when they see it going on. It's a glimpse into the dark side of the "duality of man" as RL Stevenson(Dr. Jekel and Mr. Hyde) put it. The scariest monster to ever walk this earth is man. And this movie illustrates that quite well.
