This hard to find gem is a knockout! Best watched at face value - the comedy is upfront and there really are laughs rather than smiles to be had throughout - it is out and out Souf Lundun, innit, but has heart and spirit that will translate into any viewer's world. As you can tell we just simply loved this - and what's not to love - Orlando Bloom who at first seems like a fish out of water grows quickly on you as the milk man who becomes the unlikely contender for the middleweight world title.(It reminded me a little of Michael Crawford's turn in the excellent film from the early Seventies "The Games" though that's a serious take on sports, they are both milkmen and both have a charm and naivety that carries both films well.) It is both silly and serious, without being embarrassing, with an excellent support cast, and I would warmly recommend this as one of the better British comedies of the decade - if sports and comedy are two of your favourite genres then you could do far far worse, a fun and surprisingly uplifting film that deserves a wider audience.

This film is about a milkman being chosen to stand in in the world championship boxing fight. The dialogs are bad. The acting is so over the top. In every single scene, things are done in such an exaggerated way that it becomes unbelievable. The plot is ridiculous that only a kid would find it interesting. The jokes are not even funny. The only entertaining scene in the film is the performance of a hip hop version of the British national anthem, which is actually rather good. It goes down as an embarrassment to Orlando Bloom's portfolio. This film is so ridiculous that it is no wonder that it is not surprise that it went straight to DVD in most countries.

1936 - "The Milky Way" starring Harold Lloyd Timid milkman, Burleigh Sullivan (Lloyd), somehow knocks out a boxing champ in a brawl. The fighter's manager decides to build up the milkman's reputation in a series of fixed fights and then have the champ beat him to regain his title.1946 - "The Kid From Brooklyn" starring Danny Kaye Shy milkman Burleigh Sullivan accidentally knocks out drunken Speed McFarlane, a champion boxer who was flirting with Burleigh's sister. The newspapers get hold of the story and photographers even catch Burleigh knock out Speed again. Speed's crooked manager decides to turn Burleigh into a fighter.2004 - "The Calcium Kid" starring Orlando Bloom The film is a mockumentary comedy, in which Bloom plays young milkman Jimmy. He is an amateur boxer who by a bizarre twist of events ends up fighting the world champion in his home town.Three actors, the golden boys of their time, doing the same plot. The Kaye film was a remake of the Lloyd offering, and one wonders how much was borrowed by the director of Bloom's film.

Well, its a British made film so obviously its not gonna have the Hollywood Glamour too it. But in my opinion all the better.Bloom plays Jimmy the local milkman who has recently started training doing boxing, down his local and very shabbily run gym.Whilst trying to do a good deed by helping out as a sparring partner for the current top dog in england, he accidentally causes him to break his hand, when he lands a punch on Jimmys skull ????? Bedlam ensues as the manager tries to convince Jimmy to take his place, he agrees and thus ensues a documentary on Jimmys training and the complete balls up of his managers advertising of him, and his public portrayal, which causes jimmy to be shunned by the community and by his friend stan and his mother even rents out his room to a psycho girl who has the hots for jimmy. But there is a happy ending. Its a must for all bloom fans and for all those who appreciate a low budget brit flick, and who can appreciate it for the gem it is.P.S There's a wicked sound track.
