Disclosure: I don't use drugs (Okay, fine, alcohol/cigarettes, but specifically referring to the pot/cocaine in the film) and after watching 'The Boys and Girls Guide to Getting Down,' I'm curious to see if this is just a comedic guide to using, or what actually occurs. And curious enough only to learn about the latter. Having less exposure to the (fill in the blank) guide shorts of decades past, and more on the guides examined/ridiculed on 'MST3k,' I thought this movie was hilarious. I loved the fact it didn't do a straight up remake of the guide films, but it showed one long night of partying and how to conduct yourself. Sort of a spoof off of one of my favorite films, 'Go,' 'Boys and Girls' explored everything from getting to the hot/not spots, what to do when partying, uh, getting down, and how to make your exit. Years past since I hit these types of scenes/clubs, and since I never was a user, I was so oblivious to drug usage, someone could've been doing a line in front of me, and I would've probably asked them why they just didn't put their sugar in their tea instead of their nose. So, it just leads me to wonder how much of the movie is true. (Yes, I am stating my happily ignorance.) Either way, it's a hilarious effort, original and hopefully, most people won't be taking it seriously enough to use this as their 'guide.'
... View MoreI have to say, this movie was one of the most real independent films I have ever seen. It gives you the reality of nightlife, with every detail spelled out into slightly confusing concepts. While most are pretty clear, the events and situations are either extremely realistic, or just blown WAYYYYY out of proportion. This movie gives us many messages, and tips to improve your haggard lifestyle, but you're too dumb to get most of them, get this one. Posers listen to FERRY CORSTEN, women are B-i-tches, and drugs are the way to seduce any woman into having wild, unprotected sex with you.The end.
... View MoreRemarkably entertaining and refreshing little comedy here. The cast of unknowns do a spot-on job of portraying their roles, the writer and director had something ... well, not new, but not overdone, and interesting to say, and, as other reviewers have said - this is true. I have known these people, and even been a few of them. There were very few laugh-out-loud moments - but there were an awful lot of delighted grin times here.Your experience may be very much a matter of taste - I also thought _Romance and Cigarettes_ and _Go!_ were fun, couldn't make it through more than 30 minutes of _Click_, and have no interest in trying _Dumb and Dumber_, _Jackass_, or _Napoleon Dynamite_. If you need overblown to enjoy comedy, skip this one. If subtle, wry wit works for you - enjoy it.
... View MoreIf you haven't seen "The Boys and Girls Guide to Getting Down", you must check it out when it comes out in theaters!! This independent movie is hysterical and innovative. It's writing is fantastic. It was written and directed by Paul Sapiano. Definitely a breath of fresh air at the movies, especially when it comes to comedies. The movie is a satire on Los Angeles nightlife and the hipsters in Cahuenga scene. Its ensemble cast is stellar, they create memorable characters that take you through the "dos" and "don'ts" of partying in LA. The movie is set up into chapters and like a guide is supported by some killer graphics. There are also a group of scientist that help us understand the scientific side of "getting down", why things really work the way they do.If you like to party and want to learn from the best... how to get free drinks, get into clubs, buy drugs, get laid, then this is the flick for you! Have some beers and smoke and go enjoy this movie with friends! It will be in theaters March 23!
