Great movie, a true classic. Hockey, beer, sausages, and a flying dog. What's not to love.
... View MoreWell, I saw this on my cable listings a few weeks ago and remembered how funny the ever so short skits were, usually as the ending to another hilarious SCTV episode. As someone who has seen hundreds of movies I find the SCTV brand of humor hilarious but you really have to know your references and for most people it goes right over their heads. I would video tape SCTV episodes in the late 70s and early 80s in the Chicago area and share them with friends who, for the most part, didn't think it was that funny - unlike the SNL stuff that was fresh and funny in it's own way as well.My first reaction to seeing the listing was, I don't remember this movie even existing. My second reaction was, MAX VON SYDOW? How did they get him to do this movie? So, I thought there would at least be one good actor in the movie.I watched this movie expecting it to be lousy, so my expectations were low but I was pulled in and then my wife joined in and we both enjoyed some low-brow humor. So the reviewer who said chicks won't get it was wrong!!Anyway, I thought it was a pretty good movie and Rick Moranis does a great job. It doesn't make allot of sense in some parts but the plot line seems to hold up pretty well. There are few classic parts in it and you can actually see where Adam Sandler got some of his humor from, a couple scenes reminded me of Happy Gilmor. If you remember SCTV, this movie is a must-see and even if not, it's a good way to kill 90 minutes. I was looking for a Rush cameo and to hear "Take Off" with Geddy Lee, but no go.Enjoy with a Elisnore Beer and some Back Bacon, Eh? IF you don't like it you're a hoser! ;)
... View MoreHilarious. Great one liners throughout. The low-budget production value and 'canadian' look and feel only add to this quirky beer drinkin fare. For me it's Rick Moranis that steals the show..'Sorry about that breakdown and all', 'if I didn't have puke breath', 'I've gotta take a pi$$', 'he likes jelly', 'good thing I wore that jock', Etc, etc, etc,...... I'm getting thirsty just thinking about it... Definitely the cult classic of beer drinkin flicks....and probably the funniest. Hosehead is my hero. This is the one that started it all. Seems almost like one of those stupid 'home movies'....if it wasn't for the two leads hilarity, this would probably be one of the worst films of all time. As it stands...a personal favorite. 79/100A very disjointed plot seems to fit the stupidity and hilarity of the whole thing. It's probably the most ridiculous of any highly viewed film ever made, and it is quite possibly the best "one-liner" comedy of all-time. It will certainly divide audiences. People who like to have fun will enjoy it - stiffs will hate it. I'm tempted to give this a ten because this might be the funniest movie ever made. You'll like this if you liked: Beerfest, Anchorman, Up the Creek, or Ski School.
... View MoreI love this film. To me there isn't a moment of dullness in the entire flick. I think the script is mixed with great written diolgue and ad-libbing w/the best of them. I also think it's a shame everyone forgets just how good Max Von Sydow is playing the bad guy as if the movie is a serious Drama! It was great to see that Spielberg felt the same way when he played the bad guy to Great avail in the classic "Minority Report." This reminds me of how so many films that people try to make themselves and this is the end product of a shoe-string budget, with purposefully bad set-ups and ridiculous lines. Films that cost 100x's this budget can't compete w/this classic film. It seems that people either "GET IT" or plain ol' don't. The prerequisite for this film is that it should be watched w/someone who has seen it before, or in groups. Granted this film is great on it's own, but it is that much better when you watch it w/others that can appreciate the humor! If you enjoyed the funniest movie ever "Airplane" & The "Naked Gun" Series as well as Weird Al's "UHF" you will almost assuredly enjoy this film. The sad thing is that Neither Rick Moranis or Dave Thomas ever did anything better in their careers. Rick had a pretty good career for about 15 years after this ("Honey I Shrunk the Kids," "Ghostbusters" the under-rated "My Blue Heaven" w/Steve Martin to name a few, but Dave Thomas just popped up here and there once in a while. The kids these days that think the "Scary Movies" are great (which they aren't) need not apply because they won't get it, although they are welcome to try!
