If you miss the 70s then this is the stand up for you. The only thing missing was mother in law jokes. Or maybe they were in it, I couldn't continue watching after a while. Byrne is probably one of those comics that vociferously defends comedy's right to joke about anything, that is the mark of a really poor comic. If all you can do is offensive, gross out humour, you're not funny. This is the Amy Schumer of male comedians.
... View MoreAfter watching The Byrne Identity I was a huge fan of Steve Byrne, however after watching all of maybe 30 minutes of Champion I'm beginning to wonder if he stole a portion of material from Louis C.K's Hilarious. The Jokes in question:Gay parades and flaunting homosexual acts. (Almost exactly like Louis' joke) White Girl problems. (Which was White People problems for Louis) The really old lady in airport security. (For Louis this was a really old man)After the airport security joke I had to turn off the special and watch Hilarious because I was almost certain I've heard this before, and I was right. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but watch Hilarious, then watch Champion, and tell me I'm wrong.
... View MoreSteve Byrne has been pretty funny for many years, and could be considered one of the biggest stand-up comedians today. But this time, something seems different. His jokes are now anti-woman, anti-fat woman, anti-environmentalists, jokes about "flaming gay" men and "full-blown" AIDS. Did Byrne have a bad relationship? He seems bitter and has reduced himself to just rattling off ignorant stereotypes. Now, this is sort of his shtick, especially because he sees even his own family as stereotypical. But does that excuse the jokes about black people loving fried chicken and being slow at fast food restaurants? His Obama impression also somehow turns into Bill Clinton reciting Boyz II Men lyrics. Um, you might want to work on that a bit.
