I was eleven and I had nightmares for months and was afraid of horror movies and clowns for years. I began to watch horrors again only few years ago and clowns still give me the creeps. Almost three decades later I decided (not to say I gathered courage) to see "It" again. Thank you for childhood trauma, Stephen. In the small town, where children are disappearing and being murdered, a group of boys and one girl joined forces to fight evil and became friends for life. Decades later, the killings begin again, and they leave their lives and gather in their home-town to defeat evil once more. The movie alternates between these two timelines, which is typical of Stephen King's style. There are other features of the "King of Horror" - a childhood trauma, an evil that lurks hidden behind the facade of a quiet town, ordinary people (often children) who, with their mutual trust and unselfish sacrifice, win victory over supernatural forces. The acting is good, especially performances of the children, but Tim Curry steals the movie in the role of Pennywise, character that will make you hate clowns forever.7/10
... View MoreAlthough being a child of the 80's and a long time reader of Stephen King novels I've never gotten around to watching this classic until now, and man, I'm glad that did!Having seen the 2017 IT-movie only a couple of days ago, and found it pretty lousy, I figured I had to give this one a try as well. And man, was I surprised! This movie is actually really good. Sure, the special effects are horrific, but the cast is great and the storytelling above par. Possibly the best Stephen King movie to date.

In his earlier scenes, he is quite frightening (the sewer sequence is probably the only moment in the entire movie that I can call genuinely scary), but, over time, he also proves himself to be flat out hilarious. In the second part, there is a chaotic sequence in the library in which Richie is attempting to talk to the librarian while Pennywise is just yelling and dancing around and laughing over his words, and it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Some of the humor in this version is quite funny, but some of it falls really flat, unlike how in the 2017 adaptation all of the jokes, for one reason or another, at least produced a smirk on my face. The film's horror elements may not be "scary" per se, but they are a whole lot of fun. Some of the special effects are enjoyably cheesy, Tim Curry's make up is fantastic, and there are points in which the film goes so totally nuts that it feels almost surreal.Despite its ridiculous 3 hour length, "It" is for the most part a fun, enjoyable thrill ride that may be flawed, but is too entertaining for me to dismiss it as being as bad as some others seem to think it is.
... View MoreIT is a pretty good made for TV film. I have not read the book but from my understanding the novel's ending is quite different. From what I gather, the TV film ending has cut out more about the kids - something they do not want aired on national TV.I love the casting for this one, it's an all-star adult cast - faces you will recognize from other films. I like the story for this TV version, sometimes funny, would be scary if it was really happening in reality.IT comes to the kids as a clown. IT's not a demon, not a poltergeist, nor is IT an alien, IT's not even a nightmare. IT is was IT is, whatever IT is. And IT's a good watch.7.5/10
