Honestly, this movie is just a poor rip off of Finding Nemo and other movies like that. Then they had jokes that they thought were funny, but I always knew what the punch line was going to be. They kept having this walrus guy who 'performed' or whatever he was doing, and everyone who watched the movie was just like "what?" because no one really knew what he was saying. Then they just had to bring that guy back at the end of the movie. Ugh. The animation was not good either. I mean it was not as bad as some thing I have seen, but it was not that good. It didn't have that shine and certain quality that other movie have. Also there were plot holes and errors. At the beginning of the movie his parents were killed ( sort of like what happened in Nemo :/) and they never really brought that up again. It just happened and that was that. A few times Pi and Cordelia went above the surface of the water and stayed up there way longer than fish can stay above water and live. Later in the movie when Pi was going to fight Troy his 'brother' Percy heard and showed up at the end to help, but they never established that he was coming to help. Believe me, there are many, many more plot holes. Keep that in mid when debating whether to watch this or not.

I remember seeing this in school when I was 10 and I hated this movie but years later, I decided to look back thinking that I might've been too harsh and I was so surprised that it was just as mind-numbingly awful as I remembered it to be.The animation is ugly and I mean it is on par with A Fox's Tale and Foodfight. Everyone looks like cheap plastic and have ugly humanoid faces like it's from Seaman (Sega Dreamcast game). The animation is cheap looking and the background scenery is bland. I've also noticed the sky is a picture they got from the internet.., they're not even trying. The story is incredibly cliché where the hero tries to win a girl from the bad guy except it is dumbed down. Oh and guess what, the one trying to hit on the female fish is a shark... I'm not even kidding. And if you're wondering, yes, this shark does eat fish making him some cannibal in their strange universe and the female fish even says "Your breath tastes like tuna!"... wait, how does she know what tuna tastes l-... oh my god.The jokes are really unfunny such as that cruel "better place in the sushi bar" joke and the lame mussels joke. The characters are either bland or extremely annoying and some of them are racist stereotypes. The background music is... oh I can't remember it, so it's forgettable. The voice acting is pale and I'm sure they aren't even trying. The movie is inconsistent at times such as when Nerrisa the turtle says some corals can tear skin off even though Troy went through it without serious injuries... whoops!I want to find some redeeming factors but there simply aren't any at all. It fails in all levels. It's not as bad as Where The Dead Go To Die (worst movie ever) in it's quality although it's pretty damn close but in terms of annoyance, it's the worst. This movie is up there with Where The Dead Go To Die, A Fox's Tale, Foodfight and Eight Crazy Nights in animation's hall of shame.

I find watching paint dry more enjoyable than this film. Due to the requirements of IMDb, I'm forced to spend wasted time on why this film is deserving of the lowest rating allowed on the site. The movie is a poor man's version of "Finding Memo" and also has similarities with "Sharktail." If cruel and unusual punishment was legal, watching "The Reef" on repeat would fit the bill.To be honest, if possible, I would have given it a negative rating. Unfortunately, "The Reef" was given to my toddler as a gift, since he hasn't watched it an infinite amount of times, we have too endure voice overs that seem disinterested and cgi that is sub par even compared to today's apps geared for toddlers. Avoid this film!

I found out about this movie from my wife, not from her mouth, I found it in her DVD collection. So anyway, my son is fast approaching two now, and he loves this movie, and this is the problem, because that almost seems like the target age.I am struggling to think of anything good to say about this movie, and to be perfectly honest, I really don't think there is. The animation is pretty bad, and this becomes evident when we first see Pearl (Drescher) as her face is nothing but very clear pixels. Agreed with many other reviews on here, the scene where we see the ship wreck is pretty well done and could possibly be considered a work of art that even Pixar would appreciate. But the storyline... oh dear. This is a complete rip-off of Finding Nemo, in particular. It contains nothing that you haven't seen before, not just in animated movies, and the humour is non existent, despite how obvious they try and make it. But the thing that really gets me is how seemingly tropical fish could ever create their own habitat, let alone survive, in the murky waters that are around Boston. All in all, this movie may be good for the younger generation (any child less than the age of 5), but for anyone else, it is something that will be long forgotten in the years to come.
