If you enjoy seeing a woman watch her husband smashed to bits by a truck as she futilely attempts to save him, then this is the movie for you. As a little bonus, in one final scene you get to have a look at the fatherless children. You'll get to feel warm and fuzzy inside as you imaginatively extend your sympathies to this unfortunate family, and walk away feeling better about your own sorry life.

Sadly the execution for "Premonition" failed to live up to what could've been an enthralling roller-coaster ride filled with mind- boggling scenes where our conclusions to be drawn are more than likely to be welcomed. Have you ever felt like being stuck in time? Linda Hanson (Sandra Bullock) has the unfortunate experience of being in such surroundings. She seems to weave back and forth from the past and future with little purpose and so much confusion. In many ways her story can resemble the likes of Kurt Vonnegut's "Billy Pilgrim" where one scene of her life swiftly changes back and forth to the point where she's at her wits end. Her roller-coaster ride begins on that tragic Thursday where Sheriff Reilly (Marc Macaulay) shows up at her door to tell her the news that her husband, Jim (Julian McMahon) was killed in car accident the day before he was scheduled for a business meeting.By the next morning, Linda wakes up discover Jim lying on the couch. And the day has transformed to a Monday as Linda dismisses her events as only just a vivid dream and goes back to sleep. By the next morning, Jim is deceased once again. It's Saturday and all her dearest close ones are preparing for her funeral while she's clearly not dressed for the occasion. Linda knows there's something fishy going on here and hopefully she could save her husband from his fate if she could find a way to manipulate the future through her premonitions. I'm usually fond of movies with with non-linear timelines like movie "Memento" among many other. Heck I even gave a similar film that Bullock starred in "The Lake House" a bit of praise that very few people did during its release in 2006. I bear no prejudices when it comes to suspending disbelief. In the duration of this 96 minute long roller-coaster of a film, Linda was able to change a few of the outcomes while unsuccessfully wasn't able to rectify all of them. All the while it seems to lack in any constituent pattern. Her week just goes around back and forth with no rhythm other just to weave through the plot structure. When it comes to performances, Sandra Bullock was really on her A- game. She's able to capture the painful ordeal of reliving her husband's demise while all performing it on daily basis in an enigmatic non-linear perspective. Therefore, she can't fully embody grief like most of us do when a loved one dies. She may look unhinged, but we can forgive her for her confusion she's facing. Peter Stormare is evenly impressive as her psychologist Dr. Norman Roth who's equally baffled as Linda is. Julian McMahon turns in a great performance as a husband who's relationship with Linda is on the rocks, but still has the time to be a devoted husband a caring father. A far cry from his Dr. Doom character. Sadly the acting can't get approved mainly because the script by Bill Kelly was never fully completed unlike his well polished script "Blast from the Past". Meanwhile German director Mennan Yapo takes it to an even greater low as his camera movements tend to move around in a way that becomes quite appalling which makes every scene uninspiring or uplifting. There are many methods to represent a character's confusion and disorientation without giving its audience migraines. Time travel has been a symbolical manifestation in the romantic fantasies, but writing about them is as complex as it comes. For us to get into these situations you have to make sense of it all, "Premonition" fails to accomplish that. Which is too bad because I really thought this movie had the potential to be really good. Sandra Bullock and company turned in terrific performances but the details to get the story seemed to fail in delivery which goes to show that a good movie isn't about just the acting. You need a coherent story so we can get more involved with the storytelling by the performers for a movie to sell. So while this movie survives on strong performances by the cast and the ideas have the audience in wonderment, it still fails to make any logical connections to keep us involved with the characters. In addition to that Yapo's camera work could use some greatly need improvement in the future. Plus there are some very disturbing footage with violent scenes and lots of foul language to keep advised. For some trivia this movie was originally supposed to be filmed in New Orleans, but because of Hurricane Katrina it was located elsewhere. I'm sorry I can't recommend this movie.

Premonition (2007): Dir: Mennan Yapo / Cast: Sandra Bullock, Julian McMahan, Nia Long, Kate Nelligan, Courtney Taylor Burness: The title apparently means "previous warning" and that's what viewers need before seeing this ridiculous film. Sandra Bullock is given the news that her husband died in an auto accident. Starts out well before repetitious circumstances where every time she awakens her husband is either alive or dead. Director Mennan Yapo is backed with eerie production and a decent performance from his leading lady. Bullock pulls all the stops as a confused woman struggling to make sense of the dilemma. She goes from regular house wife to trying to figure out the events that have recently transpired. Either way she will wake up to a depression and dealing with her two daughters with regards to the loss of their father, or she will enter the shower where he cleanses himself much to her shock. She goes to a doctor in hopes that he will tell her that she isn't nuts. Julian McMahan is total cardboard as her cheating husband. He is more or less observed through any conduct with Bullock, and how his fate came to be is more a kick in the ass than a surprise. Nia Long is wasted as her best friend. Kate Nelligan is lifeless as her mother who shows up when the plot conveniently needs a supportive word. The result is a laughable thriller at best. Score: 4 ½ / 10

Don't waste your time! In fact I think I may be overly generous with half a star. If, however, you are a film maker and are interested in how terrible a film can be with lousy cutting, flat performance, continuity errors, sloppy camera work and poor storyline - look no further this surely is the one! This story had great promise - at least I thought it did from the trailer, decent cast, a good hook to bring in audiences, yet it failed story wise. Not a lot can be done with it when the story just fell apart. The mystery and suspense of this movie was not generated in any shape or form from the story, but rather the from the confusion of what is going on.
