Due to an emotional event early in his childhood, a self-centered, young man known simply as "Me" (Chris Evans) doesn't know how to fall in love with a woman even though he has no problems dating them. That all changes one day when he meets a young lady known by the equally simple moniker of "Her" (Michelle Monaghan) who essentially has the same problem. Yet even though their connection is magical and they clearly enjoy each others company, the fact of the matter is that she is engaged and has no intention of breaking it off with her fiancé even though she doesn't love him. Needless to say, this causes him a great deal of anguish and as a result he turns to his circle of friends for advice. The problem is that they are just as emotionally mixed up as he is and as a result he doesn't know which advice to accept or reject. To make matters even worse, as a writer he has been given a certain amount of time to come up with a script for a rom-com for which he is totally out of his element given his past and current emotional state of affairs. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this was an okay rom-com which had a good supporting cast and some very likable characters. I especially liked "Scott" (Topher Grace) and "Mallory" (Aubrey Plaza) along with the two lead actors mentioned earlier. Unfortunately, for a romantic-comedy it lacked the necessary humor which is vitally important for a film of this type. As a result I have rated this film accordingly. Average.
... View MoreWell, the movie does start great. It showcased the main character as someone who is trying to find and experience true love. The chemistry that happens between the main male and female character is really well acted, both the actors are very good in acting the attractions. The story was great until it comes to the conclusive part of the movie, where the cliché "happy ending" for the viewers everywhere. I mean come on, is this movie supposed to promote cheating? The ending was so abruptly unrealistic. It would've been better if it is not all about being happy in the end, cause we all know it's not always roses. It would be more meaningful if it ended differently, like how "500 Days of Summer" ended. Even though it's not happy ended, it gives the viewer a really meaningful ends, where we could learn something from the movie. 5/10 for the great cast but not so great script.
... View MoreIt was refreshing to see Chris Evans portray this kind of role after quite some time. He is a screenplay writer who is forced to write a rom-com. He is a person who doesn't believe in love after a traumatic incident involving his mother. He believes his life is perfectly fine with his bunch of friends, his grandfather, and occasional flings. He has a deadline coming up, his agent is pressurizing him, and he has no clue what to do. He has a severe writer's block until he meets her at a charity event. Love at first sight for him. A friend and support for her. He confesses his love, but she is already engaged. Now, it is up to him to fight or let go. There are a few laughs here and there throughout the movie.Chris Evans keeps the energy and spunk alive. Michelle also plays her part well, as the girl torn between love and stability. On the flip-side, I found the story clichéd in some places. On an afterthought, quite a treat if you are a Chris Evans fan.
... View MoreI rated this movie with 3 stars, because I actually like Chris Evans. The movie, though, is awful! The storyline sucks and doesn't have anything interesting in it. It is so cliché, my eyes hurt. The characters don't have any depth and many of them have no reason to be in this movie in the first place. The whole sketch thing is something out of a bad parody movie. I screeched every time those sketches showed up. I liked the whole idea with the heart being outside of his body and actually be portrayed by him, but they didn't take very good advantage of that. I liked how Evans and Monaghan played their roles, but there is only so much you can do with a bad script. In conclusion, it is a silly movie, that got me to crack a smile or two a few times, but it didn't do anything else. I kept checking how much time I had left of this movie, because I owed to the people that worked for this film to at least finish it. Let's just say that it is definitely a movie I won't ever see again, even if I randomly find it while channel surfing. It was sad seeing Michelle Monaghan in a movie like this one and it concerning seeing Evans play in a movie like this, since the only major things he has done by now are Marvel movies. I'd hate to see his acting career drive of the bridge like that, when he is only starting.
