Nico and Dani Trailers

While his parents are away for the summer, 16-year-old Dani invites his best friend, the irrepressible Nico, to stay for the holidays. Jealously rears its head when Nico appears more interested in the local girls than in Dani. Hot summer nights and too many joints lead to experimentation which neither boy can talk about, a situation complicated by the appearance of the older and openly gay Julián, a published writer and old friend of Dani’s father.

This film centers around the youthful indiscretions that often occur between close friends of the same sex who haven't quite had the opportunity to have sexual relations with the opposite sex. We see the story from the point of view of both characters, Nico and Dani, who both care for each other as best friends. However, while Nico simply sees these occurrences with his friend as a way to ease his sexual frustration until the "real thing" comes along, Dani has in fact fallen in love with his best friend, and as is the case at that "awkward teen" phase, the situation gets awkward. As the film progresses, we see how both characters come to terms with their sexuality, and in effect sexual incompatibility, which drastically strains their friendship. Nico and Dani is a gay themed film, but since the teenage experience is pretty universal to human existence, I think any open-minded (and honest) adult would be able to relate to this slice of teen life set in coastal Spain.

Teen age sexual awakening is at the center of "Krampack". This tremendously frank account of a summer in the lives of two friends who are spending their summer vacation in the home of one of them in Spain. The film proves to be a winner because it presents a situation from the point of view of the young men, instead of from judgmental adults.Gay Cesc, the Catalan film director, made a good movie about how sex plays a key part in the lives of the two young school mates. The film is made even better by the no-nonsense approach Mr. Cesc gives the film.Fernando Ramallo is Dani and Jordi Vilches is Nico. While Nico wants it to be the summer where he loses his virginity, Dani has problems of his own as he discovers that he is attracted to men and has to struggle with his new discovery. Both these young actors are totally believable, giving excellent performances, wisely shaped by Mr. Cesc's direction. This is a refreshing look at a thorny issue, which the director handles with total frankness.

Although I am an American I totally enjoyed seeing this new movie on TV. It is about some teenage friends taking a vacation in Spain. I think it a very good role model for fun and friendship! It seems very natural and spontaneous. I hope to see some follow up movies with a similar plot.

I am glad the local Hasting's store stocked this one. It was surprisingly good. The movie made me guess several times about the ending to come. Thankfully, I was unable to accurately predict what would happen. The acting was good, the subtitles in English easy to read, the score entertaining, and all other elements seemed to fit very well. For a movie that dealt with reality so bravely, perhaps I should have rated the movie a 9!
