This movie can best be described as a very long episode of a very bad sitcom. How many vaguely humorous misunderstandings can you cram into just one movie? Notes are misplaced, bags are switched, conversations are misheard, people get mixed up, situations are misinterpreted, and somewhere along the line people are supposed to laugh about something. The writers are really struggling to keep everything going, which makes the dialogues feel really forced. If anyone in this movie acted like a real person all this would be resolved in around two minutes or so and everyone could go back to their lives, but they have to keep the misunderstandings going. At times this movie also tries to go for some juvenile laughs, but all those do is remember you about how funny "American Pie" was. The scene with the nerd telling the hooker (who he thinks is a foreign exchange student) to "eat his sausage" goes on forever, not one second of it is funny. I've got to give this movie some credit though: because of the subplot about stolen money, it's not as boring as it could have been. It also has a laugh here and there, but then sadly goes back to yet another character misunderstanding stuff. Overall this movie is just way too lame.
... View MoreThis has to be one of the biggest misfires ever...the script was nice and could have ended a lot better.the actors should have played better and maybe then i would have given this movie a slightly better grade. maybe Hollywood should remake this movie with some little better actors and better director.sorry guys for disappointment but the movie is bad.If i had to re-watch it it would be like torture. I don't want to spoil everyone's opinion with mine so..my advice is watch the movie first..see if u like it and after vote(do not vote before you watch it ! ) and by the way... Have fun watching it ! Don't just peek...watch it 'till the end :))))))))) !!

I do not even remember if this movie came to theaters and I had no desire to see it but the local clerk at the movie rental store said it was really good. I was embarrassed not to at least try it since I could not find anything else and it was a rainy weekend. I am awfully glad I doubted my preconceptions long enough to try it.Rather than Animal House, think Frazier. Some of my favorite Frazier episodes are the ones where everyone is involved in something but thinks of the situation as totally different. Person A thinks person B has a crush on them but person B is really trying to find a way tell person C that they love them but person C is trying to steal something from person A, etc. The mistaken comments and the way people misinterpret things can either be confusing and boring or it can lead to very funny comedy. Frazier almost always pulled it off as very funny. This movie does the same thing. This is a co-ed dorm and one afternoon at the dorm. The characters have different ideas about what is going on and each is usually doing things they believe are one way but others see as another way. It is hard to explain, especially without spoilers, but it is easy to follow when you watch it and I found it very funny. There is one character (or group) that were a little too vulgar for me to let my teens watch it right now, but for adults, it is overall very funny. Even the vulgar parts (involving a brother trying to hire a prostitute for his brother) are funny for the most part and play okay.I highly recommend this movie but it is important not to be expecting Animal House or other things and just plan on a relaxing funny movie.
... View MoreBelieve it or not, "Dorm Daze" is for fans of AMC, not MTV.I watched this movie because Patrick Renna was in it, and he's always been funny. But I was expecting a really terrible "American Pie" clone, and I was pleasantly surprised. This is not a typical "college" movie. It's nothing like Animal House, Old School, or Van Wilder. "Dorm Daze" is an homage to old-style comedy, in the manner of Laurel & Hardy or the East Side Kids -- comedy that the audiences of most modern college movies have never heard of. So I see why it was given terrible reviews by most. But if you appreciate the black-and-white stuff, you'll like this. I was very pleasantly surprised. There were a lot of things I liked about this movie, but here's an unusual one: Even though I was watching the "unrated" version, and many of the characters are indeed rather sexually motivated, this was certainly not as in-your-face sexual as most college comedies are. Most of the comedy is found in chase scenes, mistaken identity, people getting thrown out of windows, and the like. That was a plus.On the downside, there are no really memorable lines. While the early scenes between Patrick Renna and Chris Owen seemed a little forced, the overall dialog wasn't bad (well, in the age of Star Wars prequels I think we've all learned that good dialog is optional). Still, there certainly was no "Honey, you think KFC's still open?" or "Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life." But maybe that's not a bad thing. There are too many movies out there that seem to only stay afloat because they're quotable -- "Zoolander" comes to mind.I did have one real problem with this movie. There was no cross-dressing! What's a slapstick without a guy in a dress?Rating: 6.5 out of 10, but I'm leaving it with a 7 because the unexpected watchability of this movie convinced me to round up.
