The script, simple and predictable, revolves around a cold real estate agent focused on work, career and profit, who ends up changing because of a set of seven penguins his father had kept, and sent him as a last gift. This film reminded me of La Fontaine's old fables, in that it uses deeply sweet and emotional elements to convey important messages about the family. The "moral of the story", which all fables present at the end, also marks the end of the film. Jim Carrey is the main character but he brings nothing new in a recipe that has been on screen in other comic movies. Carla Gugino is a good supporter but doesn't do more than what she should do, like the rest of the cast. The only exception is Angela Lansbury, a great lady of cinema who is always good to see working. The difference is definitely the penguins. They behave like active characters, they're charming and will certainly impress children. Sometimes they may seem a bit artificial, but personally I found CGI compelling enough to give them realism. The soundtrack is good, but forgettable. In one sentence, this movie is good, it talks about important values while entertaining the whole family well, but there is still something missing that can make this movie a truly breathtaking and unforgettable experience.

This is one of the rare films made in this decade that is actually watchable, and I'd watch it again and again. It's basically a fun story of a slick salesman who receives penguins from his father that passed on, and both he and his kids get to love the penguins.I would really mention that the movie stars the penguins mainly, who truly do take the fun spots of the movie quite easily, from when they joyfully slide through the halls at the gala, or when Nimrod runs into a wall. And finally, for the conscientious viewer, there are quite a few omg throughout the film and one mention of "for Christ's sake", but otherwise this is a funny and great weekend film for the whole family, and there's not much more to say, other than try watching it!

I've been a fan of this guy since the early 1990s as a kid as he starred in A lot of over the top comedies that made me laugh out loud. From Dumb & Dumber to The Mask to Ace Ventura, basically he was the king of Comedy back in the old days. Since then his comedy isn't as funny as it used to be and here is an example of one film that wasn't as funny as his old school comedy movies. He plays a man who as a kid his father couldn't spend some time with him so he sends him a penguin that he receives in his front door of his apartment. But when he wants to get rid of the penguin he ends up getting 6 more of them the next day. Of course his son's birthday is approaching and his son is over the moon and even his ex wife(well it doesn't state but she must be his ex wife)even takes the penguins in too. But of course a zoo keeper wants to send them back to where they came from and its up to Carrey and his family to save the penguins.Overall I enjoyed this movie as it was on RTE ONE last night as the big big movie and I never seen it before so I decided to go and check it out. Carrey isn't as funny as he is in like I said his old school comedies because his getting older and his wacky side isn't as wacky as he used to be,but if your like me and your a fan of Carrey's since his career. Than check it out. Bottom line I prefer his old school movies more. 5/10

Jim Carrey's Mr.Popper's Penguins is actually a better film than I anticipated. This film actually reminded me of the Jim Carrey of old. He had some of his 90's slapstick despite it being toned down for a family audience. I really liked the penguins in this film. They were quite mischievous but cute. After watching this film, I came to respect penguins even more.Mark Water's film is about one of those divorced fathers with two children who in order to get his kids to like him again, he decides to keep some penguins that his dad sent him. However, there is a certain zookeeper standing in the way.Jim Carrey was pretty good in this. He is not up to his usual antics but he's getting close. Clark Gregg makes a good, villainous zookeeper. It was also nice to see Angela Lansbury in a movie again.Overall, this is a decent comedy that the whole family would enjoy. There's not too much in the way of violence which is a good thing. These penguins are enough to keep the kids entertained. There may be a few slow moments but all-in-all I liked this film better than the critics did. I rate this film 8/10.
