Mountain Men (2016) is unfunny and predictable to the point of boringness. This film is so insubstantial that it is hard to talk about. Nothing here is worthy of conversation really. The same exact plot line has been done countless times. There were no moments of suspense or doubt, as every single thing could be seen from a mile away. Both the acting and directing are passable, but the film suffers tremendously from being too cliché. The message that is trying to be portrayed is not only extremely obvious but it is repeatedly shoved down your throat. The consistently flat jokes never seem to get any funnier or even better. 'Mountian Men' is hardly entertaining and is not worth the time spent watching it.
... View MoreIt is not usual for a comedy to keep me on the edge of my seat, wondering what disaster will happen next, but that's the exact effect that Mountain Men had on me. Director Cameron Labine's particular execution of the dramedy genre could not have been more entrancing. Combine his creative eye with the impeccable acting of young actors, Tyler Labine and Chace Crawford, playing estranged brothers Toph and Cooper respectively, and you get a next-level survival film that embodies laughter, love, and the pursuit of happiness. The question on the brothers' minds throughout the film is, "What does it mean to be a man?" This dive into the masculine psyche made for a very unique addition to the already manly nature of the "roughing it" outdoors theme. Director Labine did an admirable job of capturing the truthful concept that all humans have internal struggle in the world around them. The journey that Toph and Cooper experience together not only brings them closer as family, but brings each of them closer to their real selves.
... View MoreMountain Men is one of the funniest survival films I've seen to date! Starring Tyler Labine, as Toph, and Chace Crawford, as Cooper, the film blends together a perfect smattering of humor and heartfelt moments. Despite the often quiet, contemplative turns the film takes, I was left in stitches all the way through. In the wake of their father's disappearance, the two brothers embark on an unexpected journey of reconnection. The conclusion of which left me feeling satisfied; the kind of satisfied that reminds me to call my brother and let him know that I love him. Real-life brother and director Cameron Labine did a wonderful job of bring this film to life. The cinematography is breathtaking and perfectly captures the isolation of being lost in the snowy wilderness. The beautiful Canadian outdoors acts as a stunning backdrop to the emotional rapport that builds between the brothers as they come to terms with the loss of their father. Smart, heartfelt, and funny, this film is a much watch!
... View MoreAfter seeing Mountain Men I felt as though I was put up against the elements to fight for survival. The Director, Cameron Labine, did an amazing job of engrossing the viewer and bringing the film to life. The cinematography was breathtaking and the acting done by Chace Crawford and Tyler Labine was riveting. The way the Canadian Scenery was captured made me feel as though I was in the wilderness. As well due to both actors' performances, the estranged family dynamic was easy to follow and relate. Apart from the drama in the film, a comedic side was also prominent throughout. There was a nice balance of drama and comedy. It had me laughing but also on the edge of my seat. Tyler Labine, known for his comedic roles, adds comedy to the film but also does an amazing job of bringing out a dramatic side, which is not often seen. Overall the film was great and I recommend it to anyone seeking a drama with comedic relief that deals with family struggles and a story of survival.
