His girlfriend murdered and he is supposed to be testifying to bring her to life in the courtroom. He looks at the guy who shot and killed her and says "what does he have to do with her? i don't even know him!" I watched that scene and sat there after literally with my mouth open. it was painful. This the worst piece of PC garbage I've seen in years. Cliché after cliché. Hoffman is beyond boring and Sarandon must have helped write the script. It is worth watching for two reasons, Ellen as "Bertie" is awesome as well as hot, and the other reason is the movie is so bad that the dialogue plays as a horrible comedy. Another cliché: Sarandon is supposed to be a writer that hasn't touched her typewriter since her daughters death (gee what a surprise) and after the trial gee what a surprise, she can write again! She decides to write about her dead daughters ugly truths and says "Fuck the perfume, give me the warts!" I wanted to barf. This film is crap from start to finish. I see why Hollywood writers are putting out such garbage, they obviously don't live in the real world so their made up one is full of wishful thinking.

Directed by Brad Silberling, "Moonlight Mile" stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Joe Nast, a young man who lives with Ben (Dustin Hoffman) and Jojo (Susan Sarandon), the parents of his recently deceased fiancée. "Mile's" second half finds Ben and Jojo facing a pair of shocking revelations: Joe and their daughter had called off their wedding, and Joe is now dating another young woman (Ellen Pompeo), a revelation which the couple deem a betrayal of trust. Though a slight film, and despite a ridiculous climax, "Moonlight Mile" boasts a quartet of likable performances, a smooth soundtrack and some fine cinematography, Silberling painting a portrait of 1970s Massachusetts, rich with deep browns and blacks.7.9/10 – Worth one viewing. See "Trees Lounge", "Nobody's Fool" and "Beautiful Girls".

This movie deals with three people dealing with the murder of a daughter. One of them was her fiancé.Moonlight Mile (2002) is directed by Brad Silberling. It's loosely based on Brad's own experiences. The cast does a great job.Dustin Hoffman is amazing.Today this great actor turns 75.Jake Gyllenhaal plays Joe Nast.Susan Sarandon is Jojo Floss.Ellen Pompeo portrays Bertie Knox.Holly Hunter plays Mona Camp.Dabney Coleman plays Mike Mulcahey. This is a film not to avoid. It's not a kind of film that makes you only cry and feel sad, it can also make you smile. The romance part is something I enjoyed. In the music department there is Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Jefferson Airplane and their guitarist Jorma Kaukonen, not to forget the Rolling Stones. The film's title comes from their song of the same name.

A great cast and a great story. I'm in the codger category and don't keep up with today's youngsters, but Gylenhaal need take a back seat to no one. As usual. Hoffman and Sarandon are thoroughly convincing and then some, and ditto for the young lady. The story was touching, well told, and somewhere along the lines certain aspects must have hit home to someone.I recommend this story of confused love and confused relationships to one and all, except for the folks who go for blood, guts, and nice, loud special effects."Moonlight Mile" is a movie I will savor again.
