I saw it a couple of days ago, but now I'm thinking does it deserve what I've rated. I mean I have rated it average, but I think I've overrated it. Some films impacts me the days going by since its watch, this is not one of those. It was exactly like the opposite. The cast looked good. Even the screenplay, only when each layer separated according to random timeline. Together, it is a mess. It was confusing at the beginning to the first three quarters of the tale. But once the twist came in, not what I was expected. The story of US army man who served in Afghanistan, now returned home after a disaster in the mission. Coping with the consequences, he's not the same man as before he left the home for his national duty. With narration keep changing its timeline, at one point in the final quarter, all are tied together. And ends the story before explaining the events for us.The actors were good, but it was the storyline that did not stand and deliver. Especially the editing that layered out multiple events. That created curiosity, though the solution was weaker. Or most of the viewers would guess that earlier self. Some people might like it, but surely majority won't. I don't know what should have been done to make it better. But I did not enjoy it.5/10

A well-crafted script, interweaving time-lines, following a marine through family exchanges, training, combat, debriefing results in an iconic, touching and classic film. I was very disappointed that this film was not hailed as a critical or popular success, and wonder if the studio publicized it adequately. Shia LaBeouf's world-class performance was nuanced, masterful and merited awards and accolades. His co-star Kate Mara was natural and authentic, and Charlie Shotwell, who played their young son, was very talented and moving. Gary Oldman's performance was also compelling. Rarely has a film that I felt was so classic been so little appreciated. Not only was there a very personal story here, but a more universal narrative resulting in sensitivity training in the horrors of war and the number of veterans suffering from PTSD. It is my hope that this film will find more viewers, since it is of a very high quality. It is also my hope that the director, writers and actors are not discouraged, and go on to make more films.

Well this was an unexpected treat of a film. A little confusing to start with, but it slowly emerges and you think to yourself, oh my god, that poor man. This film made me feel even more sympathetic towards the soldiers that fought in Afghanistan and other wars. They fight for us, they are treated like crap and then left to be homeless and suffer what this actor is portraying. This film wasn't advertised like most, in fact I don't even remember seeing a trailer for it, but I watched it for 5.99 and it was well worth the watch.

I guess you either love Shia, or realize he's one step away from Keanu Reeves level.I'm mystified how anyone can like the guy. Not his acting, the person himself. In every single movie he's been in, I just want to punch him in the face. He can't even enunciate. This movie literally needs "Shia-To_English" subtitles. He also has exactly one facial expression. ONE. - And that expressions says "I've just taken 2 valium. Give me my check and I'll read my lines for you."Also, the movie is incredibly dark and depressing. Well, at least the first 1/2 hour, which was all I could take.Adding nothing further, to make my # of lines quota.Adding nothing further, to make my # of lines quota.Adding nothing further, to make my # of lines quota.Adding nothing further, to make my # of lines quota.
