I saw this movie years ago and didn't think to write a review. However, I came across it once again while trying to watch something on a lazy day. I would have liked this a lot more if they had just done some research or talked to a vet. The inconsistencies killed it for me. The plot centers around a small family in a small town somewhere (I think ) in the south. Young mom is a former addict, dad is a mechanic at the local garage and a Marine reservist, they have a young son. The dad and boy do a thing where they rap or sing or something like that. The dad eventually gets called to deploy. This is where the problems start. Apparently, everyone associated with this movie believes that when a Marine gets deployed, he/she doesn't get payed. The writer hasn't heard of BAQ, VHA, or basic pay during wartime (which incidentally doesn't get taxed). Oh, and let's not forget danger pay. The reason I mention these is because it becomes relevant in the later part of the movie. I'll explain: once the dad is deployed, we begin seeing the little family have a hard time, they have no money for the mortgage, food, etc. She loses the house has to move back into the trailer park with her abusive father and ends up back on drugs. This entire plot line killed the movie for me! What was the dad doing? Going to the goat club and making it rain in Afghanistan? Just a ridiculous premise, entirely. This is the meat and potatoes of the entire movie! The ending comes in a M. Knight Shyamalan type twist, so I won't reveal it. Just see it for yourself. This could have been an ok movie but the plot-holes just killed it for me.
... View MoreI was totally disappointed towards the ending sequences. The big reveal left me wondering just who did the research on Military and their families.Anyways, moving right along ... The delivery fails so dramatically I find it hard to give this fluke a better rating til I see it a second time to see if I missed something. The story hits all the right notes. Faith. Loss of faith. Failure. Redemption. Faith regained and the ending with all the soldiers standing watch and giving assistance boosts this story back up ... we are never alone. But it isn't enough of a boost after the wooden performances turned in by all the actors. For that I blame a lack of inspired direction and giving this excellent story i high rating after a failure of performance would reward a director wrongly.
... View MoreI have never taken the time to review a movie but this one made me want to tell everyone about it. We watch a lot of movies and I have never had such a strong reaction to a movie. I will watch this one several times over. The best part is it is perfect for everyone in your family. If you don't love this movie then you do not have a heart! It is so great to watch what life is like at home for the military family, we surely don't give enough credit or money to our military families. Thank god for our soldiers but we should also be thankful for the families that support them and they must leave behind. This movie also portrays how sometimes our children are much stronger than we are. Watch this movie and lets see if you agree!
... View MoreAs much as I hate to say it, this movie was poorly done; lacking the kind of quality most viewers would expect to see. That has you wondering if it could get any better. It is not a movie I would care to watch over & over and or would brag to others about. I didn't find it entertaining, enjoyable and meaningful. Nor like the website, that describes it as being... uplifting, inspiring and healing. This movie should be redone better than it was. Because it comes off looking like a home movie shot by an amateur. Or something left over from the retro B-movies.Locations throughout the movie looked runned down, unkept, vacant and as if dressed up. Most movies have that special lighting & appealing colorization that this one doesn't have. The plot seem a bit too choppy and character development not clearly defined. What I gathered is... Lifted (2010), seem to depict a perfectly good teen surrounded by unfortunate circumstances & bad people. With the teen's rise to success comes certain unexpected loss at the end. The only best part of the movie is near the ending, which still left something more to be desired. The only person that was recognized in the movie is Chris Adkins. Uriah Shelton and Ruben Studdard are the only ones I liked seeing in the movie. Most everyone else didn't seem to fit in, as they weren't what one would expect to see in movies. The viewer is left to figuring things out on there own. The dad didn't resemble anything like the teen, which made one wonder if he was a boyfriend or step-dad. I thought the mother was going to either group therapy or some alcohol anonymous place. We are left wondering if the dope addict mother or the drunken no-good grandfather does any better, since the teen accomplished something. I feel the dad should of lived and the two wasted family members should met their maker.
