Let Us Prey Trailers

Rachel, a rookie cop, is about to begin her first night shift in a neglected police station in a Scottish, backwater town. The kind of place where the tide has gone out and stranded a motley bunch of the aimless, the forgotten, the bitter-and-twisted who all think that, really, they deserve to be somewhere else. They all think they're there by accident and that, with a little luck, life is going to get better. Wrong, on both counts. Six is about to arrive - and All Hell Will Break Loose!

Ugh, I'm SO annoyed by some of the ratings on here. I watch a lot of low budget-ish horror. Often in the 4-5-6 rating- range. Although, I mostly skip those with a rating of under 5, because they are rarely any good. However. This one currently has a rating of 5.7. That's not that low, but it is too low. It should be in the 6-range somewhere. Why? Because it looks good. It's never boring. Has a interesting story. And has some pretty cool characters - Liam Cunningham being one of them. He's not like unforgettable or anything, but he has a strong presence to him. And I think the fact that he is in it, is some of the reason for this movie having a lower score than it deserves. That's gonna attract people that normally wouldn't watch this type of horror movie, and so, they expect something else than what they get. Expectations play a HUGE role in how you like a movie, unfortunately. If you go into this expecting a entertaining, relatively small, horror-thriller, I think you'll enjoy it. I've seen so many movies with scores in the 5's, and most of them suck. This doesn't. So yeah, you can't always trust IMDb-ratings. Too many people give bad ratings to be shocking, or to seem interesting. And that is, to quote the President, SAD.

Arriving at a new police station, a rookie officer tending to a series of rowdy prisoners finds that the mysterious stranger who's just arrived at the station is somehow turning the officers against each other with their worst fears and tries to help them before it's too late. This one here was quite the chilling and highly intriguing effort. What really tends to work for this one is the fact that it really manages to work in quite a rather intriguing atmosphere here with the way it works in the Biblical annotations into the main storyline. Despite the constant quotations that let on far more than what they're truly about, this makes for a rather intriguing set-up that ties the religious quotations into the reasoning for why he shows up here to go after them, which comes from this strong set-up here with how the tormenting carries out. Going for the psychological mind-warp that attacks their psyche that really brings everyone out of their element due to suddenly being forced upon their long-held secrets and really brings out the action in the final half where they really go overboard with the action in that setting. With the fantastic brawling and beating that occurs here as nearly everyone turns on each other forcing this into plenty of rough fighting, brutal tortures inflicted upon others and tons of stalking scenes throughout here with the big chasing by the deranged corrupted officer, the gunplay is quite fun and the whole setting taking place in the burning inferno of the station makes for a wholly enjoyable and over-the-top finish which is quite the big plus into film's positives. As well as the strong beginning tempo with the big convergences in them getting to the station and the great blood and gore, these here are more than enough to hold it up over the few minor negatives here. The main issue here is the fact that it takes so long to get it going that it's really hard to get into it due to that relaxed pacing. There's little here other than just going through the motions of him playing mind-games rather than anything else and it has rather lame tactics doing that which is quite troubling as it follows through on just nothing of any interest here due to not having any kind of importance attached to these scenes at that point in time yet is given a grand importance to them. This makes for a troubling time during the beginning in this section, and it's all that's really wrong here.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Language, Graphic Violence and themes of child molestation.

'Let Us Prey' is a film that's own creativity is in a way its biggest downfall, which is a shame. The film is set in Purgatory (not confirmed but heavily implied) with a small group of incredibly unlikeable people occupying a police station and being influenced by 'Six', who is the devil (again not confirmed but heavily implied). The problem is that because every character is so unlikable you find yourself unable to care for any of them or their fate. There's an attempt to make the character of 'Rachel' the protagonist, but even she comes across as a bit of a wet paper towel. Consequently the film really struggles to draw any emotion out of its audience. The devil is in complete control of the movie from the minute he enters. There's no attempt to fight back or combat the situation (there is but it doesn't even get 'Six' to stand up) and so what we end up with is something that we knew was going to happen all along taking 90 minutes to get there. It's not all bad though. The character of 'Sgt. MacReady' gives us a fun ride and 'Six' was played very stylishly by Liam Cunningham. The Irish accent can often be very hard to pick up for the rest of us but I thought the majority of the cast did a good job with clear dialogue which was for the most part pretty audible. It's a cool little idea but I think for it to really work the character of 'Rachel' had to be a lot more likable. A fun enough ride but ultimately not scary enough to work as a horror film.

The film starts with some truly beautiful photography and cinematography and I thought we were in for a visual treat sadly this is not carried forward to the rest of the film. This is a story about the usual day to day life's in a typical backwater Scottish village, the wife beating doctor, the murderous joy rider, the psychotic cops who beat their prisoner to death, the paedophile teacher, only joking!! After such a bright start it is a well trodden path as Clint Eastwood, or the Scottish version arrives in town to wreak revenge on the wrong doers. It is all a bit predictable and it is a shame as I thing there is a better movie in there, a few lingering shots of the mountains to build atmosphere but all seems too rushed, the acting was OK but the script a bit one dimensional.
