When it was released ,"Canard En Fer Blanc" was poorly received.Hindsight reveals its charms. It is comic strip style and it's quite entertaining .Of course the sheer power ingredient is missing and the characters are cardboard :the tough raider (Roger Hanin),the beautiful Passionaria (Corinne Marchand ,remembered for her part of "Cleo De Cinq A Sept") the shady doctor (a cast against type Francis Blanche),the hysterical aristocrat lady (Lila Kedrova in an almost unbearable performance;the director probably saw Hitchcock's "torn curtain" (1966)),all the stereotypes of the adventures movie.A pilot gets busted in an imaginary South America country and is sentenced to death; He is saved from the fire squad by a bunch of so called revolutionaries :he 's got to fly them to Santa Costa ,another imaginary country ,where a hidden pile of money will help them overthrow the tyrants and restore liberty and democracy. But some people of the group's motives are not as clear as they appear at first sight: money can't buy happiness, but it does help;so on the way to the promised land,a villain is slowly doing away with his mates .Action-packed screenplay ,not much food for thought, but pleasant."The Canard " (=duck) of the title is the pilot's plane.
