As much as I adore "Koi ..... Mil Gaya" (2003) and "Krrish" (2006), I loathe their sequel i.e. the abomination named "Krrish 3". The first movie was influenced a lot by "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" (1982) and "Spider-Man" (2002). However, it had a story to tell and it did. Similarly, "Krrish" was pretty much influenced by the principles of Batman from "Batman Begins" (2005), a lot of actions from "The Matrix" (1999) among many other popular superhero films. It told a good origins story and was fine on the whole. And one more thing, their target audience were mainly the kids, so they were enjoyable enough as kids movies. But this movie? Oh hell no! Unlike the first two, it tries to be more than it is - an epic superhero movie of all times. This, despite (in its core) being a kids movie, feels like a cheesy rehash of some bad Hollywood superhero movies. As a kid's movie, it's something that even the kids will consider to be dumb, compared to other films made for them. It is superbly lazily written. It has no story inside it, the major plot points being ripped off of "X-Men: The Last Stand" (2006) mainly. That was the most commercially successful X-Men film at that time, and at the same time a pile of stinking trash. Since Bollywood wants to make money, they copied shamelessly from that movie. A lot of things are similar to "The Avengers" (2012) and "Man of Steel" (2013) regarding the destruction that takes place in the movie. There are some desi plotlines in this movie that feel incredibly hilarious. Just to make it look different, they made use of the same old story elements that is predictable to say the least. Leaving aside the Hollywood ripoff things, it creates a huge number of plot holes and inconsistencies regarding the franchise. The way Rohit speaks after the events of the first film doesn't explain itself. He was intelligent but still foolish after the events. And Krrish's powers are still not explained, which feel like the over amplification of Rohit's powers. In this movie, it feels like Krrish is a love child of Superman, Batman and The Flash rather than Rohit's son. Kangana plays the love child of Shadowcat and Mystique. Vivek Oberoi who looks like an illegal son of Saif Ali Khan in this movie, plays the love child of (drumrolls) Professor X and Magneto. And these aren't the spoilers. The only genuinely good thing about this movie is that Hrithik Roshan is really great as all the three characters - Rohit, Krishna and Krrish. The other thing I really had great time with whilst watching this nonsense was trying to figure the X-Men character they ripped off to create the character I am seeing on screen. Apart from these, nothing was there, except trashy things. The songs were useless in the first place, and to make this garbage more stinky, it greatly hampered the pacing of the movie. It gets an "E+" and a "3.1/10".
... View MoreI am not a big fan of Bollywood movies but I kind of like this one. Not because it is extremely successful but it is watchable and kind of different from other Bollywood movies. I agree with most of guys who have posted reviews that this movie looks like a copy from many successful Hollywood movies. The 2nd part of the movies is almost like another episode from x-men series. But I am not going to criticize the movies because of the valiant effort made by the producer/director/film crew to produce a blockbuster movie equal to a Hollywood one. It should be appreciated. At least we can hope for better films in this category from Bollywood in the future. What I am doing is encouraging it. I don't like what they did to great Priyanka Chopra. She is one of my favorite and she is doing nothing but appear here and there in the entire movie. I wish to see more strong acting from her if there is another episode of Krish.
... View MoreHrithik Roshan was an instant super hero when he shook open the Bollywood platform with his first film, 'Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai' in 2000, ending the dominance of the 3 Khans. The Khans to their credit, slowly reestablished their place over the next decade. But the star power and head turning ability of Hrithik was growing tall ever since. The Greek god look-alike is unarguably the best looking big brand in India. Now he is all over the media space as his newest flick,"Krrish 3" has entered the 100 crore club and still growing stronger.'Koi Mil Gaya' and 'Krrish' were instrumental in cementing Hrithik's place in the elite club of Bollywood. When his hit maker dad Rakesh Roshan decided to extend the franchise, Fans started to go haywire. Hrithik roshan has also worked extremely hard on his physique for this film. But credit to the director who didn't over do it. We just got a look at the near perfect body which turned every man green and every girl red and wanting for more. Well to be honest he got that right. It was just the right dose. The first appetiser for any film is the trailer, and in the case of Krrish3, I was extremely disappointed by the first look. The film looked like a stolen collage of many big Hollywood flicks, including the Superman and the X-men franchise. So to the section of the crowd who follows Hollywood was obviously disappointed. But to be fair to the director, the film turned out to be much better than the trailer. That was because of the way the director incorporated emotions to the film. To be precise, its the overused, but still real life family bonds that you can see in the Indian families that made the film worth watching. The action sequences and breathtaking audio-video effects was the highest selling point of 'Krrish 3'. Considering the fact that an Indian film handling such complex and futuristic graphics and animation assisted sequels is in itself a big achievement. And as far as the quality of the effects go, The team nailed it. Absolute thrilled and proud to see such perfection in Indian films. but the negative side of the same coin is the originality of action. All the major action scenes were cheap copies of famous Hollywood flicks, and that didn't go well with a section of the crowd who lives Hollywood. To the good side of Rakesh Roshan's luck, the majority crowd in India hasn't seen X-men or Superman and for them the gimmicks of Krrish, the superhero was out of the world, and they passed them in flying colors. There is absolutely nothing to talk about the story of the film as nobody cared about that in the cinema hall. Either it was the charm of Hrithik, or the magnanimity of the visuals that kept the audience engrossed. We can have better conversations about some mindless twitter trends than talk about the story of 'Krrish 3'.The biggest positive that an ardent film goer can pull out of the film is the honest performances by the actors. They were competing against each other and were constantly outdoing their co-actors. Hrithik was just eye candy in its purest form, but his portrayal of Krishna's father Rohit Mehra was beyond his years. He maintained the childlike body language of Rohit from the film,'Koi Mil Gaya' and increased the intensity of emotions in his face. Anyone who saw 'Krrish 3' will acknowledge the hard work and dedication Hrithik puts into his work. Bravo.Prianka Chopra's Priya was the one who didn't have much scope for improved acting, but she made up with her well toned physique and screen presence. The Villain Kaal and his side kick Kaya left a lasting impression on the cinema goers. Vivek Oberoi is always known for the effort he puts in his roles. He was effortless as the dark soul, the paralyzed Kaal who was keen on his own interests and bringing calamities upon calamities to the world. We can see that his character has been inspired from the X-Men, but Vivek delivered a commendable performance as the Villain who loomed dark over the screen and injected fear in the heart of the audience. Kangana Renaut also was sharp and deserves a pat on her back for the portrayal of Kaya, who is the equivalent of Mystique from the Xmen. She looked beautiful, sophisticated and evil. She fell in love with the Krishna and Kaya's transformation from good to bad afterwards is canvassed beautifully. Well done Vivek & Kangana. very very honest performances. To sum up, the film leaves better impression than its trailers and produces some good quality effects to entertain the crowd, but its lack of original action sequences is its Achilles' heal. I would have gone with 7 if not for the stolen Hollywood scenes. But the good performances of the actors gives the film and extra point and 'Krrish 3' gets 4/10. Director Rakesh Roshan still has the touch to mesmerise the audience, but next time he should come up with something more original. I recommend that everyone should watch the film for the good direction, honest performances and mind blowing execution of the visual effects
... View MoreThe impacting role in this movie in my view is of Kangana. Though, she usually does portray a character of a confused girl in most of her movies, here playing Kaya is done very well with her sense of being confused. :) I am not making fun of her at all. Kaya is played very well by her. The confusion of her doing good or bad and being in love with Krishna can be clearly inferred in the later parts, with Kangna being able to project this very clearly. 'Krrish 3' does overdo it (at some places) when it comes to being sappy. There are a number of 'too much sappy' dialogues and at the end, the scene where 'someone has to leave his/her baby at the mercy of Krrish trying to stop a falling piece of building and Kaal, on top of it, jumping menacingly on that falling architecture to make things even more difficult for Krrish' is quite melodramatic! :D. 'God Allah aur Bhagwan', in my view, was certainly not needed where it was put. Must have been much better to use this one in end credits or with a proper function for Krrish where he, himself with his father and wife was not supposed to dance. I mean, leave it to some other talents to pay respect to Krrish by having cameos in such a song! That said, the airplane scene in the beginning of the movie was swell. The whole special effects in the movie were great! While watching the trailer, the 'anti-virus bomb explosions' snippet made me think, whether Krrish saves a planet this time! And I am glad, this was not what I expected and found the actual premise for this scene quite palatable. I have always been a 'superhero-aholic' chap, reading DC, Marvel & Raj Comics and watching movies, and I really enjoyed this movie. The scene where Krrish faces the 'Frog Man' for the first time, especially the point where he confronts him giving him the 'you are in my territory' looks was very impacting for me. The logical aspects are 'far far far' more better than Dhoom 3. :D The movie has a very good appeal for kids. And the positive messages expressed in the movie are commendable. Like when 'Krishna gives a rose to Kaya (Not joking, see the movie for this)'. I found the song 'Dil ... tu hi bata', the only 'worth remembering song' because of the music and the frames from Jordan. If someone thinks 'why Kangana suddenly drops to the ground and beaves like an animal' in this song ... that is because of the character she is playing in that movie! I find Krrish 3 a great and quite under-appreciated effort (by over- demanding silly people who given a chance will themselves be not able to achieve even 1% of this work) in the landscape of Superheroes.
