It was certainly a very risky experiment completely apart from the mainstream. Extra Marital affair has always been very overrated in our country. Maybe that is why, people in our country not only did not like the movie but also criticized it very badly. But I am sure, while making the movie, Johor might not have had any expectations of good reviews from Indian public and critics. Nevertheless, the movie did a fantastic performance in the overseas market. It was also received positively there. Even today, after 8 years of its release, it is still the 7th Highest grossing movie in the overseas market. I personally loved the movie very much. Though it was too high on drama. I have always admired KJO's movies. But KANK is very much close to my heart. I know this is too late to write this review. But I watched the movie yesterday on TV. Not that this was the first time I watched it. My dad had shown me the movie on the first day first show of its release in 2006. But as I was too small then, I couldn't understand the movie. But now, when I am 18, I understood how intelligent the movie is. Hats off to Karan!

I really do ُnt know why this movie has a rating like 5/8.Kank was not a great film but its better than 5/8.(maybe 7/4)Why I liked:Music:I think after Kuch Kuch Hota Hai the music of Kank is the best in Karan Johar ُs movies.(as a director)The song"Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" is the best song.I think "Tumhi Dekho Naa" was a little like "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" (song) and "Rock n Roll Soniye" is a little like "Shava Shava" in "K3G". Karan Johar can control the actors and most of he scenes. Performance:Kank is like K3g.full of superstars.but all of them have a great performance.I think Kank has one of the best ensemble cast in Hindi films.SRK:A lot of SRk ُs fans don ُt like this movie because of his character. He is Dev Saran.when you are watching Kank you must forget KKHH,K3G,DDLJ,KHNH,DTPH and all of the kind, good and comedy characters of him.He is not an idiot lover in KKHH,or even an obsessive lover in Darr.He has a special performance. He makes Dev Saran real and if you like SRK ُs positive character maybe you do ُnt like Dev Saran.Rani Mukherjee:I ُm happy that Kajol rejected Kank.because even her appearance is not suitable for Maya ُs character.Rani has an innocence face but she can be a traitor too.Rani can talk with her eyes.I don ُt like her but she has a good performance.Preity Zinta:Preity has 4 movies with Srk but it ُs clear that they are not good for each other!Because of this maybe she was the best choice for Rhea ُs role.she ُs beautiful and suitable for a fashion magazine. i think it ُs one of Preity ُ s best performances.Abhishek Bachan:The best actor of the movie. He and Amitabh Bachan are only funny characters.Rish ُ s angry face, kind face, comedy face and his love fr Maya.Abhishek can do all of these. Amitabh Bachan:He and SRK have problem with each other?(in movies)at first "Mohabbatein" that Amitabh was fighting with Srk.Then K3g and now Kank.but in Kank they had a better relationship than to previous movie. i thin Samarjeet don ُ t like Dev.Amitabh is amazing and makes you laugh in the most of scenes.Kiron Kher:she was ُ nt so important but she was good too.Characters:the characters were real, believable.they were ُ nt far or they were ُnt from another planet. They were near and I could understand them.None of them was white or black.all of them are gray.none of them was innocence, all of them had their fault.Dev was the darkest character and Rishi was the lightest.all of the characters failed.all of them had a part in their personality that wants to finish everything.but only Dev and Maya found that part. They are not as complete as their spouses because of this ,they feel bad about their marriages. Why I didn ُ t like:story, story and story!treason is not a bad story but it was bitter and different by Indian ُs culture.the hotel scene between Dev and Maya was not necessary. the story was real but usually people are not as lucky as these characters.you can leave your spouse for someone else!then...what happened?everybody forgives you and you can be happy with that one!Rishi married again Rhea found someone else,Dev and Maya reunited each other. Then what can we hear?"the foundation of marriage should be love not something else."It ُs right the way of showing this was wrong.the story is the happiest style of treason. But sometimes it can ُt be like this.9/10.

'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' is Karan Johar's latest attempt after 'Kal Ho Na Ho' and it explores the theme of extramarital relationships.'KANK' tells the story of Dev (Shah Rukh Khan) and Maya (Rani Mukherjee) who embark on an extramarital relationship because they are neglected by their spouses, Rhea (Preity Zinta) and Rishi (Abhishek Bachchan). To start with, the idea isn't refreshing or novel at all. This theme of adultery and misunderstanding between husbands and wives were experimented umpteen times in Bollywood. But the treatment that goes with telling the story is appreciating. Karan Johar brings a certain amount of depth into the characters and makes us connect to their emotions. But there's one inconsistency in the plot and that is Dev and Maya's relationship. Their relationship looks like nothing more than physical attraction. The two end up in bed too quickly before even giving any chance to their spouses to realize their shortcomings.'KANK' rests on SRK and Rani's shoulders. They perform ably and bring certain depth to their characters. Preity Zinta and Abhishek Bachchan are good too. Amitabh Bachchan also has his moments. Kiron Kher is lovable. Editing is good and is in sync with the pace of the movie. Cinematography is awesome and the locales of U.S.A have been captured to the fullest. Choreography could've been better.'KANK' is a must watch.

Like an Expensive Melodramatic Indian Soap Opera In New York Karan Johar attempts to make a 'so-called mature' movie but the handling of the themes and the storytelling is very amateur. Many of the comedic sequences, especially the silly ones like 'black beast' (racist?) were cringe inducing. Much of the dialogues are the kind you would hear in soap operas. The characters are poorly written. Rhea is supposed to be a strong woman who loves her job and family and while her quality time with family is limited, her excuse to Dev is that she's 'forced' to be the 'man' of the family? This is not the kind of thing one would hear a strong independent woman say. Then there's Maya, who is also a strong character and yet she lets herself be treated so harshly by Dev. Sexy Sam is quite a pathetic caricature blend of a sleazy Casanova-type old hag (who only seems to sleep with white girls that are about 40 years younger than him) and the loving father who's there for his son and whatever. The last hour is so laughable because of the sheer awfulness in execution, acting and writing. Johar's direction lacks aim and focus while his script seriously lacks consistency. The overall soundtrack is far from memorable but two songs are quite beautiful: 'Tumhi Dekho Na' (artistically shot) and 'Mitwa'. Not surprisingly, the background score is heavily intrusive. Shahrukh Khan pretty much overacts in every single one of his scenes. Dev isn't supposed to be likable nor sympathetic but the way Khan plays him is frustrating to the viewer especially with his overdone expressions and measured tone of voice. In my opinion, this is perhaps Rani Mukherjee's worst performance to date. She fails to demonstrate the complexity and depth of Maya and could someone ask Rani or Johar why Maya keeps crying so much? Abhishek Bachchan tries to be funny and charming but he's not entirely convincing which, unintentionally, makes it easy to understand why Maya doesn't want him. Amitabh Bachchan is incredibly irritating as Sexy Sam (though he is not as bad as Khan) but otherwise he does a fine job in a number of sequences, especially the ones with Kiron Kher. Kher is quite superb as the grounded mother and Sam's confidant. Preity Zinta stands out as she delivers an impressively restrained performance with grace and élan. She easily steals the show from Bachchan, Khan and Mukherjee. It's interesting that Johar has attempted to tackle a mature contemporary theme and even though he failed, I think his intentions were sincere. Perhaps, this is a path Johar shouldn't tread yet.
