This series is awesome; a great depiction of flawed characters with the politics of a small town. With extensive background in law enforcement, both my wife and I appreciated and found this to be very accurate, despite the Hollywood influences. Cops, unfortunately, do deal with many of the same problems; alcohol, marriage, and relationship problems. Tom Selleck does a great job with Robert Parker's character. You can feel the loneliness and isolation in Jesse Stone. In addition, the depiction of ugly death scenes is right on; no restraint. This is a great way to spend 90 minutes.

what a stupid dialog! why repeated it all the time? why repeat another stupid sentence of dialog like "i never said so". like the author, robert p. parker and his novels, the whole movie series was following the pace and tone of the novels, slow, pretentious, and gloomy. but one thing i have to point out: the premise of this series has a major flaw: you think that the city council of paradise would be so desperate and short of choice to hire a drunken cop fired by the lapd to be the chief of police? the movie location chose somewhere in the northeast and shot the series in wintry and wet seasons, but this new episode has stupidly arranged a scene of the motel owner/manager watering the lawn in april? what a pretentious and stupid scene. the whole series is nothing but a sponge full of water, soaked to the extreme with slow sound track, moody song, gloomy wet wintry scenes on and on but at the same time, drink after drink, and then with lot of meaningless macro shots of jesse stone's dumb dog. hey, you can't keep using these kinda crap on and on, again and again: 'because i'm the police chief.", "i never said so." or 'what you're looking at (you damn dog)?" and this episode, well, the paradise police chief playing a one man job, holding the fort of the paradise police dept, playing the detective and murder investigation jobs and well, a solo highway patrolman and drinking liquors and coffee all the time. a senior lost his job, still own the house on the beach without worrying the mortgage payment and property tax, got lot of money to spend on his binge drinking, yappi coffee and $180.00 one hour session of brain/mind search. what a stupid and absurd scenario!

Why do I always end up feeling conned & duped after watching a Jesse Stone episode? I go in full of high expectations, like going into a first rate restaurant: terrific menu, great atmosphere, beautiful surroundings. And then...little bitty tastes & teasers.I've always been a fan of Tom Selleck. He's a great-looking guy with a wry sense of humor & he's aged well (although I would gently suggest he have his hairdresser lighten up on the dense blacks - looks too phony). But he spends most of his time in this episode (& the last one as I recall) standing around doing a lot of thinking & brooding & posing. Selleck wears clothes better than any actor since Gary Cooper & he has some pretty snazzy outdoorsy threads in this one. But I wound up feeling like I was watching an elaborate Eddie Bauer commercial. As for the plot...what plot? Pieces of plots. Pieces of characterizations. Snatches of dialog. In the end there were so many plot pieces left hanging & unexplained it I thought this episode might be half of a 2-parter. But as far as I can tell from IMDb this is a one-shot. So what's going on? A new mystery genre? You give viewers a few pieces of the puzzle & let them fill in the blanks?Come on, Tom, your fans & followers deserve a whole lot better. We know you can do it, that's why we keep coming back.

As the previous reviewer mentioned, the opening scene garners much attention and promises of good things to come. Unfortunately, they never really do. Tom Selleck does a nice job. If it was another actor, I don't think I would have watched the whole movie. There are numerous mood shots where the camera just stays on the character a bit longer for my liking. The dog is cute (I believe it's Tom Selleck's actual dog) but he gets the same long camera lingering shots. After a while you couldn't help laughing when the dog comes on. There may be too many characters and they don't really get developed so the story does not flow. I don't want to spoil any of it for those who are sentenced to watch it, but you will find some of the occurrences to be a bit illogical. It's definitely not on par with Blue Bloods.
