So it may not be a blockbuster. But quirky does describe it well. Sean Penn and Roddy McDowall have an interesting relationship in this movie, but it's a good thing that Downey Jr. is related to the writer, as his portrayal of Franz is way over the top. But the surprise is that Danilo Perez provided the soundtrack, and while the original music may not live up to the content of his jazz albums, the inclusion of the Thelonious Monk tunes in the soundtrack is an incredible treat!

I think that this is the kind of movie that is made more for the filmmakers amusement than for the viewers. I have read other user comments and I have to agree in the several apparently pointless situations depicted in the movie, anyway, I think that it is beautifuly photographed, and that great actors are paying homage to the person to whom the film is dedicated. I watched it on TV and liked it.

This is one of the quirkiest plots and casting I have ever seen. And yet, it worked beautifully. Alyssa Milano is usually associated with not-so-good television, but in this one -- Wow!! She was interesting, eccentric, thought-provoking and fun. Alyssa really carried things, but the addition of Malcolm McDowell, Sean Penn, Cathy Moriarty, Robert Downey Jr. and Patrick Dempsey were excellent casting choices.Ten out of ten.

Hugo Pool is a great movie if you are having trouble sleeping. I saw the credits and expected a very interesting movie. Instead I saw a silly, slow, and boring flick. Obviously, some people enjoyed this movie based on the score it received, but I found this movie very disappointing.
