exploring the richness of "greasers palace" (which i also saw packaged as ,i believe , " got the boogie on my fingers" ,back in the 1980's, is a delightful experience, indeed.so i would like to throw in my 2 cents of praise.1.the speech about " bingo gas station ,with a side order of aircraft noise, you be gary indiana " ,given to the befuddled masses of humanity ,who are begging for the meaning of life ,has got to be the funniest bit of cinema ,i've ever seen......amen2.the poor woman who gets repeatedly shot with an arrow while climbing a sand dune ,after her husband and son are murdered ,and who then gets mercifully shot ,with a bullet,by god,so she can sooner join them in heaven ....what a heartbreaking and ,at the same time ,side-splitting spiritual pantomime of the highest (no pun )order...AND3.perhaps one the funniest concepts in modern cinema ,that being the character of, spitunia ,oh my poor belly from laughing) and the assault on the human-ness of Jesus, the desperate ,depraved surburban couple....

View MoreThis is a masterwork of Robert Downey, Sr. that is also a quintessential example of the freedom film makers of the 60's and early 70's were able to take in making their points.Centering on the activities of a murderous, tyrannical land baron named Seaweedhead Greaser, his adult offspring and the peasantry he controls, Downey juxtaposes the confusion of an incarnation of Christ and the tribulations of a woman lost in the wilderness to explore the pain and beauty of existential being. This film is full of humor and bizarre antics, along with anachronisms galore, but is equally full of bittersweet irony. If you like complex artistry in your films and bold assurance in your directors, you will like this film. If you are looking for simple and trite - don't bother.
... View MoreI saw this movie after midnight on a movie-channel, in a dark room. I really wasn't expecting much but somehow this strange and surreal film has a mood to it that very few movies have. Don't try to make sense of it ( I don't know if there is any ) Just relax, and take it in, and you'll see what I mean.Nothing in this movie is spelled out. It is a mystery. It's very funny, and it just leaves you with a feeling of having seen something very important and meaningful about life and death, but you're not sure what...My favourite spot in the movie is when "our" man is asked to give something to the followers, upon which he starts to hum a continuous tone. The "disiples" soon catches on and sings the tone to. He then leaves them, and they dare not stop this gift they have been given. Throughout the rest of the movie you can always hear them in the background or nearby, off camera, as the movie goes on with other things! And the closing scene with the setting sun, and the music/sound just had me mesmerized!I saw it only once, in 1986, and even today I often think about it. I wish I could buy it, but I haven't seen it anywhere. I really want to see it one more time.A MUST see !
... View MoreYeah, what those comments above this one say. It's really weird. Even if your not out to see the symbolism which is included in everything this movie does, you won't be able to turn away. At times it resembles a car crash; something in you says maybe you should look away, or just go about your business, but are somehow unable. A must see.
