A story for everyone. Her story shows true bravery, courage and intelligence. As I've read other reviews I saw some which questioned the ending....why didn't she finish Harvard? This is a story about Liz. This 'story' is only a part of her life as was attending Harvard. I doubt she stopped learning. The well-done story ended, but Liz, I'm sure, is doing her thing.I do look forward to hearing the 'rest of the story' just to know how many people she has touched and changed by her example.Just from this short story many people can learn to be better at liking or loving someone unconditionally. Many of us felt all the emotions when watching this story unfold--but we'll always appreciate not having lived it.It is a rare individual like Liz which takes this path--where every minute and every step in her day uncovered an incredible 'woman'. God bless her.

One of the few movies I've seen that truly talks about the problems that many societies around the globe are suffering from. It also goes to show you how far you can go if you are determined on something. So, you can really make a change if you put your mind into it. And it goes to show you that there is always hope for a better tomorrow. You just have to work hard for it. We all face problems of various degrees. But whatever the problem may be, we can face it with strong belief and strong will. Be someone and make your life and all the world around you a better place. I loved the movie, the story, the music, and, on top of all, the performance of Thora Birch. In my opinion, it is a must see.

Poorly directed. Poorly acted. Cheesy storyline. Cheesy soundtrack. Nothing really worth while in this movie. I respect Liz Murray a lot for what she did, and this movie just didn't do her any justice whatsoever. They made it seem like getting into harvard was just something anyone can do, and I think Liz Murray deserves a little more credit than this for her hard work. I did enjoy the portrayal of Liz Murray's father. He brought a certain lovability to such a messed up person. He made it believable that Liz would have respect for this man. Other than that, the acting didn't impress me at all.I give it 2/10 stars. Sorry guys. Just didn't see anything I really liked in this movie.

I was expecting this movie to be really good. Just by watching the previews of it made it sound like it was interesting, and boy was it. Thora Birch does an excellent job of portraying Liz Murray, a young woman who beats all the odds. She grows up in a broken home with two drug addicted parents who do nothing for her or her sister. Kelly Lynch is amazing as a mother with serious problems. The story really draws you in and it's sad. You want to feel sorry for her, but then you also wonder why she didn't pick up her life earlier than she did. I am so glad I watched this movie. It was truly inspirational.
