Horror is undoubtedly the most overworked genre in both the movie and publishing industries. The vast majority of offerings are tedious retreads of old ideas. For every good zombie or vampire film there are a dozen pieces of crap. A bazillion books about Gothic mansions with "dark secrets" clutter the shelves. The big studios slap the latest fashionable effects on some half-baked story with no real feel for the genre, and when they finally strike gold with a winner like The Conjuring, they capitalize on it with a poorly contrived sequel. The best horror today comes from indies, as it has since the 1960s. And the best indies these days -- the most consistently original and exciting -- are Spanish filmmakers."Here Comes the Devil" is a sterling example. It might be classified as a supernatural thriller or a demonic possession film, but it bends the genre in a way that's never been done before. Creepy and mysterious, it teases the viewer along to its horrific climax.Don't expect buckets of gore, but there are a few steamy sex scenes early on to get things rolling, most notably the scorching make-out scene in the car. And despite its obvious low budget, it's light-years more entertaining than the glut of shot-on-video POV pap typically comprised of ninety-nine parts filler. There's no tedious waiting for something to happen. The hook comes early and keeps steadily reeling you in.The only caveat is the dubbing, which is iffy at times but not insufferably so. And parochial minded fans of Hollywood horror might not appreciate the naturalistic casting, even though the acting is topnotch. If you're sick of the usual horror fodder this is the cure.

Ahí Va el Diablo is an excellent horror film with a disturbing and retro narrative and a wide variety of domestic horror, from the supernatural variety to the more distressing psychological one. Shot in authentic locations from Tijuana and its surroundings, Ahí Va el Diablo takes advantage from the local taste and the performances in order for us to immediately assimilate the family dynamic between the characters. Sol and Félix obviously love their sons, but they also miss the freedom they lost when they became parents. That might explain the casual negligence which leads to the disappearance of the children, and the subsequent feelings of guilt and atonement which work as a subtext of the drama, where the possible supernatural events represent just a fragment of the family crisis. I liked the fact that director and screenwriter Adrián García Bogliano left some loose ends in the story, accentuating the mystery and the oppressive atmosphere which might have been diluted with too many explanations or literal interpretations. The performances express the necessary to impulse the story, letting the suggestive silences to outline the emotions. That's a risky strategy, but it works very well, letting the film feel mature and sure of itself. And the film also counts with good special effects which season the psychological horror, as well as a perfect soundtrack which doesn't only evoke the cinema from previous decades, but also fulfills with its mission of generating nerves and suspense. In conclusion, I liked Ahí Va el Diablo very much, and I hope more people discover it, because it truly deserves it.

OK I see the other reviews, and they must be from someone who works for the director. this movie was so poorly made and boring I could not watch it, and rarely do I run into a movie I cannot watch. I gave it 30 minutes thinking from above reviews that it would be good. But it was just so amateurish, and that made it very boring. The story itself is awful. the directing is well not very good. I like cheap movies and foreign movies, but this one is just crap. I wonder how movies like this even get funded? So I don't know what anyone would see in this. If you go ahead and watch it remember I warned you! So now it is up to you as to who to believe, about this movie. the review before mine said the same thing, but the others seemed to think it was great. The first part of the movie the kids disappear , they just walk off and you don't see what happens to them, then they come back acting weird. it has been ahile since I tried watching this so don't remember much aside from the first 30 minutes, which is basically what I just said, nothing be that happens. I skipped through the movie at the time and it was just silly.

Honestly i don't understand how it's possible that this movie at the moment got so many good reviews and a general decent response. The screenplay is just dull and the characters makes stupid things for all the time. Really. What kind of parent would leave their children go alone for a walk in the creepiest spot in the world while doing a quick bang in a car parked? Or again what kind of parent would bring their children to see who was supposed to be their harasser just after a psychologist have told them that their children needed support because they are experiencing a traumatic event? The movie is full with this kind of nonsense plot things, completely unnecessary nude scenes (like the lesbian scene at the start of the movie), plain dialogs and the ZOOMS. There are lots of zooms and all of them are really really annoying. In conclusion "Here comes the devil" it's just a mess, avoid it if you want to see a good horror movie, but if you are looking for a comedy keep it in mind because like "Manos:hands of fate" it's so bad that eventually you can even found it funny.
