It is well filmed and acted. Overall I like the direction and pacing. It is a slow one so not for everyone. The one thing that held me back is that I thought The Survivalist did the survival side of things a lot better. However this is still very nicely done and I would recommend.

I honestly don't know what people want from an indie film. The story made a lot of sense and it was a film that started slowly and didn't seem to go anywhere fast but the story develops gradually and with subtle, visual beats. An amazing atmospheric movie that was beautifully shot, well written and well performed.

Low budget filmmakers really like the horror genre, because it often doesn't take a lot of money to satisfy horror movie audiences, who are frequently forgiving of low production values. Actually, while "Here Alone" was made on a VERY low budget, since it takes place almost entirely in the wilderness, it doesn't look cheap at all. It's also directed in a surprisingly low key fashion that often gives the movie a haunting and bleak feeling, which is appropriate for an apocalypse horror movie. But eventually this low key direction kind of backfires on the movie, because the movie moves along so slowly, with very little happening, that eventually the viewer will be yelling at the movie to simply get on with it. And while the movie is technically a zombie apocalypse movie, those expecting a lot of zombies and gore will be very disappointed. Believe it or not, more than two-thirds of the movie goes by before we get our first (good) look at a zombie! While the movie definitely isn't for the blood and guts kind of horror fan, patient viewers who want to see a different treatment of the zombie apocalypse genre may find the movie has rewards. This is definitely a movie that is a matter of taste.

The characters may have been relatable but the relationships were not. The male character was poorly developed. He wanted to hit a tree with a rock? Is he 12? Why would he offer himself as bait? The ending was vague. She left with the girl? Were they both zombies? Were they Thelma and Louise?
